Thanx yodhave kidu writeup
It's not usually my style to write a negative review on a new release.....However, I thought it would be proper if I could save a few moviebuffs from the suffocating experience of LOL, even if it involves "killing" a movie!
LOL: Plot
A Secret Agent hides his identity from his newly married second wife....(first half)Wife joins her husband in foiling a terrorist attack (second half).......This may sound like a decent, Hollywood plot....(True lies) Suresh Nair attempts to replant this thread in Mollywood, result is LOL
Action Movies: The Biggest Risk!!!,
It's never easy to make an action-packed thriller...Wise film makers borrow thrilling plots and cleverly remould it in native socio-political scenario.....People like SN Swami, Dennis Joseph,T Damodaran, Thampy Kannanthanam pulled off many Action Movies like New Delhi,Nair Saab, Indrajalam, Aryan, Moonam Mura, Naduvazhikal, Mandrikam etc adopting ideas from foreign movies/novels....They always made sure that there's enough thrill and suspense to keep the viewers hooked....
LOL: A "Thrill less" Action Movie
It seems Suresh Nair had no definite plan on how to move the investigation story forward.....In the first half, 80% portions were devoted to silly romance between husband & wife...It spoiled the ambience from the very beginning.....The Thrill factor, the Essence of an Action Movie was badly missing throughout!Second half was no different...Eventhough the romance portions were fewer, all the proceedings were cliched with heroine performing "Item Dance" to lure villions....Hero diffuses Bomb to save his sweet heart.....and hero overpowers villions with guns & fist fight!...Overall, there was not a single scene that made the adrenalin rushing!
RBR formula misfired
Mohanlal-Amala Paul combo was very impressive in Run Baby Run, with apt situations and energetic performance from the pair.....However, it's a real Torture this time with numerous silly romantic scenes and low quality dialogues....The two share zero chemistry on Screen and the culprit is film makers....
Joshyiyiyyi
There was a time, when watching a Joshi Movie was heaven!.....Now, things have changed.....It's becoming a nightmarish experience....When a film maker started believing in numerology and never hesitate to change his cult name signifies Two things: Lack of Confidence and Desperation......LOL proves once again that this director is well past his prime......True, Director is not a magician to pull off classics from bad script!....But, A good director needs to have Selection skills, vision and conviction..Choosing an illogical, silly script to make an action movie is suicidal....Casting aged Mohanlal to do an action-oriented role when he's clearly out of shape is arrogance....(if B unnikrishnan can get Lal "in shape" for his movies....Why can't Joshi?).....It's joshi's lowest point in his career.
A "Mechanical" Mohanlal!
"Manassil kutta bodham thonni thudangiyal cheyyunnathellam yanthrikam akum"
(Vincent Gomez : Rajavinte Makan)
In a role that would have been tailor made for the actor 2 decades ago, Mohanlal, the "natural" actor delivers a "mechanical" performance. It certainly was a sad sight for his adilmirers who were accustomed to watching him creating magic on screen.....Post 2000, Lal has been miscasted many times and making himself look awkward on screen .....In LOL, The body language suggests that he has been unwillingly made part of a B grade Movie in a misfit role....One just hopes he chooses his roles and films wisely in future as there's no crime in art world worse than wasting one's talent...
Verdict
One of the "Best" Craps, recommended for your "enemies"
Rating......000
