Manju Warrier to do a sports film next
Manju Warrier is pushing boundaries with every film since her comeback.
After being part of a road movie Rani Padmini and an investigative thriller Vettah, the actress' next will be a sports-themed movie. Fireman director Deepu Karunakaran will be helming the film scripted by Arunlal Ramachandran, who also penned Vettah. The scribe confirms that Manju Warrier has signed up for the film, which will start shooting by February 2016.
"It will be a sports-centric movie that will have a lot of feel-good elements," says Arunlal, who had also scripted Jayasurya's Happy Journey that told the story of an aspiring blind cricketer. While he chooses to keep the details about Manju's character under wraps, he tells us, "It's a role that she has never done before. In fact, Manju chechi had agreed to be part of the movie halfway through our first pitch as she said she always wanted to do a movie like Chak De! India."
The director-scriptwriter duo is currently completing the final draft of the script, before they finalise the rest of the cast and crew. On the locations, Arunlal says, "The grounds and sports facilities in Trivandrum will be the main sites." Manju is currently shooting in Fort Kochi for Rajesh Pillai's Vettah. Arunlal tells us that her role in the upcoming sports movie "will be entirely different" from that of Vettah.
"More than being an investigative thriller, Vettah is an emotional journey for all its characters. Manju acts as Sreebala, an IPS officer, and her dad Sreenivasan, played by Vijayaraghavan, is an ex-policeman. There's a strong bond between the father and daughter that forms an important thread in the film."
