Darwinte Parinamam - Review
_____________________
"A Passable One-Time Watch That Could Have Been Much Better"
Rating - 5.5/10 [★★3/4]
Detailed Analysis
______________
The label 'August Cinemas' & the name 'Prithviraj Sukumaran' were enough reasons for one to catch this flick that attracted the limelight for its peculiar name,posters & songs before the theatrical release.Directed by Jijo Antony who debuted with the horror-thriller 'Konthayum Poonoolum',this 150 minutes long experiment is a mixed bag of excitement and dread with half-baked narration that turn monotonous at multiple instances,the result being a below average movie that sums up for a passable watch at best.
After being confronted by a life-altering event,Anil Anto,played by Prithviraj Sukumaran decides to lock horns with 'Gorilla' Darwin,the dangerous yet silly villain portrayed by Chemban Vinod and his revenge and the transformation of antagonist Darwin that follows is all that Darwinte Parinamam focuses upon.The plot has slight similarities to 2014 Kollywood superhit 'Jigarthanda' and yes the premise looks interesting on paper,but the villain here comes in the form of inconsistent narration that fails to carry the momentum that it gains post an interesting sequence on screen.
The revenge by the hero feels bland and unexciting after a point,the reason why the movie couldn't end up as a satisfactory watch unlike many of the Prithviraj films in the recent past.There's an array of half-baked characters and the screenplay by Manoj Nair and director Jijo himself didn't make much care to develop these or even care to present the actions of antagonist and protagonist with required perfection on screen.
The second half is narrated more like a Tollywood film packed with forced humor,unwanted fight sequences and an easily predictable climax that glorifies the lack of clarity in the screenplay that's filled with evident loop-holes.The climax in particular was ineffective didn't make any impact.The over-drawn fight sequence featuring Anal Arasu towards the end was a big letback and could have been easily avoided.
Coming to the performances,Prithviraj tried his best to hide the glitches in the screenplay with his convincing performance as Anil Anto portraying his different facets with required genuinity.Chemban Vinod had an equally important role alongside Prithviraj and did his part well.Chandini Sreedharan was lovable.Soubin was hilarious.Rest of the cast were okayish.
Music by young newcomer Sankar Sarma was good,but the misplaced songs didn't make much impact rather than increasing the length of the nrration and slowing down the proceedings that's already snail-paced .The background score too was impressive and showcases the talent that Sankar posess.Ediitng by Vijay Sankar was mediocre and there were quiet a few sequeces that could have been chopped off.Sound design by Renganath Ravi was good.Abhinandan Ramanujam's frames were fine but with few easily notable mistakes overhung in between.
Overall,'Darwinte Parinamam' is a passable revenge drama that suffers largely due to pointless narration and lengthy duration of 150 minutes.

________
|| Prithviraj's Screen Presence || Neat BGM || Humor Element ||
Some -Ves::
___________
|| Lackluster Narration & Medicore Editing || Lot Of Lengthy & Over-Drawn Sequences || Half-Baked Characters ||
Verdict::Darwinte Parinamam had everything in store for producing an intriguing light-hearted revenge drama,but the lifeless narration spoils the fun at multiple junctures limiting this into a harmless one-time watch at the best.Watch it at your own risk!
