First of all, I haven't read the short story "Leela". But I knew some parts of the story ( especially the climax ). Even the people who haven't read the short story version were excited to watch this flick because of the huge expectations the team behind gave. Ranjith - Unni. R !
While watching the movie, what I felt was this short story was something that could be interpreted in different ways by different readers. And the movie, " Leela" is Ranjith's interpretation of it.
Coming to the narration of the story ( which I thought should have been improved ). There were instances of surrealism/magical realism in the movie ( one of em being the angel scene ) which they made comic. Instead of doing that, if they had chose to narrate atleast those scenes in the lines of "Charlie", ( the shot were Tessa imagines Charlie and Mr. Dsouza sitting in the hall lighting candles - a bit hauntingly ) felt it would have improved. Strictly my opinion!
Cinematography of the movie was good from the newcomer. Editing was not up to the mark. Everything else was fine. Biju Menon, Vijayaraghavan and Jagadheesh deserves applause. Might be one among their career best performances. And finally, liked the climax part - pretty haunting, I would say!
Overall, felt it as an above average movie which could have been better if the narration style was improved.
6/10
