We cannot compare the screens with Maharashtra. Imagine the number of theatres in the following districts alone Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Nashik, Nagpur, Aurangabad.......

Bollywwod has built a humongous screening presence in the state, thousands of screens show movies everyday. The marathi industry can take advantage of that, provided they have a good enough movie that people want to watch. So our movies cannot get the kind of release that is possible in Maharashtra.

But we have another advantage, unlike us Bollywood movies still rule the roost with the Marathi audience. The proximity of the industry and similarity of language means, the average marathi watches more hindi movies than Marathi.

In Kerala, Malayalam is no.1. Tamil has a good following but cannot overtake the local industry, especially after the recent boom.

For our movies to make money we have to take International releases more seriously. It is happening now, Kerala has a huge affluent diaspora spread all over the world, Middle East, UK-Europe, US, Australia......there is huge potential here. For decades this has been ignored.....but the newer generation of film makers, actors are beginning to realize this. Also I believe these newer markets will also improve the content of our movies. Rather than try to imitate the crass commercial elements of other Southern cinema, hopefully Malayalam industry will create its own unique path.

You are right. Marathi films have to face bigger competition that us with Hindi than we have to face from Tamil, Mumbai being the centre of Bollywood. Still an achievement of Marathi films particularly Sairaat to hold its own against Bollywood.

We have a long run collection for Malayalam films. No Tamil film has crossed 20 Cr in Kerala while many of our Malayalam films are collecting upto 30 cr in Kerala only. And families prefer Malayalam films only. And multiplex collections are more only for Malayalam . Theri collected only 67 lakhs in Kochi multies while JSR collected 2.5 crores

We are having international markets now. Our superhit films collect crores overseas.AHB has collected 1CR in UK and US. But now we need more producers who can bargain for bigger overseas rights. Otherwise our industry will not benefit fully since the whole profit will go to distributor and the producer will get a paltry amount of 30 lakhs-40 lakhs as rights.

Given like provides the box office collections of Sairat and other Marathi films. Barring two or three blockbusters, other films are not even 1/10th of Sairat collections. That is 'Sairat's achievement.

It has made on first day what Marathi films collect in lifetime.

But I think this is one off case in Marathi film industry. All films this year except this and Nana Patekar movie collected below 10Cr.

100 crore pushpam pole gross cheyyum. Nammude industrye overtake cheythu marathi and now marathi is fourth largest after Bollywood, Tamil and Telugu. Back in 2000's onnum illathirunna industry aayirunnu.

But only three films including Riteish Nana and this has crossed 50 crores. Others which released in 2016 are below 10 crore. In that aspect Marathi I think is not so big.
