One line summary: a good clean entertainer with different elements like fantasy, romance, comedy, ghusthi, friendship all loaded in a flowing way in the story subtly.
Story: The movie starts with villagers chasing a thief and unnis intro. Lal Jose introduces "Mallaapuram", a small village where everyone knows each other and where everyone has a opinion about everything. Unni mukundan is a electrical engineer in the village, his friends circle includes shivettan, shankunni (Biju kuttan), kuriachan (Prashanth), sudhi kopa. Unni has a passion for gusthi but constantly loses against Kunjachan (balaji Sharma) in the wresting match every year. Unnis childhood friend Aju Varghese is a astrologer in the movie. Unnis mother Bindu Panicker is worried about her sons marriage because of his astrological dhosham! Sanusha is a village belle and Unni has a crush on her. Prayaga enters unnis life in a coincidence and the movie revolves and evolves around it.
Positives:
- humour is clean and spontaneous; not with double meaning.
- enough suspense and excitement is infused to make the movie exciting in what would otherwise seem a simple story
- prayaga, Unni mukundan have delivered performances worth commending and far better than their peers in the industry
- bijukuttan, Aju, tini Tom, suraj etc use their skills to infuse good comedy into the story without seeming like a deviation from it
- direction doesn't reflect the inexperience of the director. In fact has been able to maintain the momentum till the end
- special mention to the cinematographer who has portrayed Mallaapuram in the best way possible
- bgm and songs by Vinu thomas ensures the emotions are well captured and set the theme throughout
- the wrestling sequence has been taken well
Negatives:
- it takes 10 mins for the movie to kick off into full flow
- it's not a new gen making but more like Kokers movies of old (putting it here since I don't know how the "youth" will take it.
-the movie doesn't leave along with you after it's over and make you think; but during the show it involves you fully into the script and its characters.
Post script: I've tried to be detailed to avoid any biases, please treat this as my view and do watch and post yours as well so that more perspectives are covered. Collections and initials are low since people seem not want to risk a Unni mukundan movie in the theatre, hopefully it'll change and people will indeed go and watch the same. Simply because there is a gap for such genuine movies as well along with the other amazing movies our industry has evolved into.
