Mammootty back as a Police officer along with Nithin Renji Panicker-son of Renji Panicker,the master of fire brand dialogues. Expectations soared high. Pre-release hype reaching new heights.

Plot

10 mins into the movie,CI Rajan zachariah is introduced and his character is established through witty onliners.Plot develops when he took charge of a kasaba police station near kerala-karnataka border for enquiring a case.
First half of the movie entertains with the one man show of Rajan zacharia-his mannerisms and dialogues evoking laughter along with introduction of the antagonists.
2nd half deals with how he solves the case.

Performances

Mammookka-We have seen this man play a cop so many times.Each time he never ceases to amaze us-one way or the another.Rajan Zachariah is no different.He is cool,lazy,humorous,attracted to women(not just attracted).Mammooka brings in completely different mannerisms to the character-be it the walk,be it the dialogues,be it the way he keeps the gun.Its Mammookka show all the way.

Varalakshimi- She plays the powerful female character of kamala and has performed really well

Sampath: as lead antagonist Parameswaran nambiars delivers a powerful performance

All other actors including Jagadeesh,Sidhique,Neha saxena,Maqbool have performed their part well although the screen space is less(dont forget its a one man show)

Direction and screenplay

The screenplay is ordinary which is rather expected from these mass movies-a mass hero vs a powerful villain(Seriously do anyone expect something different?)
Coming to the direction,Nithin renji Panicker has done an excellent job in making a racy entertainer.Since it is inevitable that a movie review should say that the movie has some lags,I am mentioning that also.Yes,the movie has some lags(Afterall he is a newbie,lets forgive him)
Yet another debutant director with mammookka adding to the list that contains some stalwarts in the industry.Hope Nithin does not disappoint too.

Music

BGM by Rahul Raj is really good keeping with tempo of the movie.There is only one song in the movie which could have been avoided(But a mass masala movie without an item song?..a big no)

Kasaba is that kind of movie in which you can find any number of faults-be it the double meaning dialogues,predictable plot,predictable climax etc. But afterall everyone expected such a movie,not one which keeps you on the edge of the seat throughout(If you expected such a suspense thriller,then it completely your fault)

Overall kasaba is a mass entertainer,a script made for that,studded a powerful and energetic performance from mammootty.The movie is filled with many double meaning dialogues which may(or may not) keep away the family audience.Some dialogues could have been avoided

If you are a Mammookka fan,then you are in for a treat.If you are a fan of so called mass entertainer,then surely give this a shot.For others it may end up as average.

PS: Saw in many reviews that if you expect a Balram,you will be disappointed.Yes this is not Balram,this is not Nari,this is not shanmughan...You cannot see a small trace of them. Afterall the actor's name is Mammootty right
