Detailed Analysis
______________
A relatively low-profile movie like 'Kismath' getting such humongous support from all the corners of the social media was bit of a surprise for me until I happened to see the almost 3 minute long trailer of the film that could be called nothing less than 'brilliant' in one word.Brimming with realistic performances, powerful dialogs and touching music, the trailer sky-rocketed the expectations, hinting the origin of yet another realistic love story of the likes of Rajeev Ravi's Fahad-Andrea starrer Annayum Rasoolum that has a huge fan following among the Malayali audience, being counted among remarkable films in the recent past.
Based on real-life events involving the love story of a 23 year old muslim guy falling love with a 28 year old girl belonging to scheduled caste,Kismath was as expected realistic to the core and didn't take a step back from the promise and presented the story without any adulteration or inclusion of elements of masala that we usually come across when love story's are adapted into movies.
Kismath isn't a colorful lovestory like 'Thattathin Marayathu' in the first place, rather a wider look into the hardships faced by the couple and the outlook of their family and society towards their relationship.
I came to know that director Shanavas K Bavakutty has a theater background and maybe that has reflected in his love for very lengthy sequences which could have been taken care of while in the editing table. There was a possibility for the dialogs to turn over melodramatic given the emotional quotient in the narration, but was checked by the debutant director who has made a promising debut in mollywood. The politics that the movie puts forward was well clear and spread out in the narration.
The duration of the movie is just around 100 minutes and the pace was rather passive from the start to the conclusion, but never gave the feel of any lag as such. The climax portions weren't much impressive and had room for improvement.
Rock solid performances are the backbone of the movie and none of the actors failed to make their presence felt.Shane Nigam and Anand Bal were particularly exceptional and amazed with their realistic dilaog delivery. Vinay Fort was impressive in the police uniform.Shruti Menon gave a matured performance.Rest of thE cast did their part well.
Songs played a major role in increasing the expectations towards the movie and the composers especially @Sushin Shyam deserves a special mention for providing such soulful songs and background score that lifted the emotional atmosphere that the narration created."Kissa Pathiyil" will be long remembered for its touching lyrics and haunting vocals by Anwar Ali and Sachin Balu, respectively. The technical side with sound design in particular was impressive.Suresh Rajans's frames were sufficient to sum up the beauty and culture of Ponnani to the fullest.
Overall,Kismath is an honest attempt from the comparitively fresh crew that's worth a watch for its genuinity in narration.
