** Despite the low key initial buzz, a non-festival day and intermittent controversies surrounding the film, Kaala raced past the Rs 100 crore mark worldwide in just four days of its theatrical run, proving the box office mettle of Rajinikanth once again. The worldwide gross of the Dharavi-set socio-political drama, which marked the second consecutive collaboration of Rajinikanth and Ranjith after Kabali, currently stands at a whopping Rs 114 crore in four days.

** It has already become the third-highest Kollywood grosser in America after Kabali and Enthiran.

** In Tamil Nadu, Kaala has grossed nearly Rs 44 crore with Chennai and Chengalpet becoming the film's highest earning territories. In Chennai, Kaala has already emerged as the highest grossing Tamil film of 2018 with a record-breaking four-day gross of Rs 6.64 crore. Except for a negligible Thursday-Friday drop (Rs 1.76 crore on Thursday to Rs 1.44 crore on Friday), the film witnessed a steady growth and topped the Chennai box office on all four days. It grossed Rs 1.7 crore on Saturday and Rs 1.74 crore on Sunday, thanks to Rajinikanth's stronghold among family audiences who thronged to multiplexes in the city.

Watched this from Guruvayoor Jayashree first week itself. Hardly 25 people for the first show. But we all enjoyed the movie... Nana Patekar and Rajni adipoli ayeetu undu but the surprise catch was the lady who acted as Rajni's wife

Padam kandu.. PA Ranjith gets it right this time. Its total his film with thalaivar in full form.. Rain fight, interval punch against Naana Patekar & all other conversions with him all were pure mass, but it is the feel good portions with his family members that evoked a lots of freshness.. Thalaiavr was too good along with Eashwari Rao who played the wife character with so much impact. On the down side, the movie's duration could have been cut short by 15-20 minutes especially some portions of Huma Qureshi. Cinematography & art direction needs special mention and Santhosh Narayanan's title track scores big time which is used in the climax portions.
Rating: 3/5 (satisifed after Linga & Kabaali)

innale padam kandu.. just okaysih..ranjith's political ideologies and rajni's mass image didnt gel quite well.. there are few scenes where the buildup makes u wait for a mass scene, but then disappoints you..the popular kya re setting ah scene is one such example..good to see rajni playing his age with children and grandchildren.. u get some vintage rajni expressions in between.. could have done away with huma quershi episode.. didnt made much of an impact.. moreover her dubbing seemed little out of sync.. probably the best performance in the movie was from Eswari Roa who played rajni's wife..lively and natural.. the length of the movie is also an issue especially in the first half.. visually movie has been shot well.. vaadi en thanga sela song was the pick of the lot.. BGM was adequate.. climax was a different attempt but mothathil storyku conclusion illathe pole thonni..as rajni was fighting for dharavi people for so many years but there still there seems to no basic facilities there..if the director has showed a developed dharavi in climax it would have been called cliche.. overall an okayish watch
