'9' starring Prithviraj Sukumaran was released worldwide on February 7 and is already the talk of town. The film has got an unanimous thumbs up from critics and audiences alike and is being hailed as one of the best visual cinematic experiences to come from the Indian film industry.

With the film having something for everyone- thriller, sci-fi, horror and romance , ‘9’ is now drawing even kids and families to the theaters in good numbers.

Interestingly, the film has fetched yet another proud moment. Sony Pictures India and Prithviraj Productions has recovered the cost of production before the release of its film by selling its satellite, digital and overseas rights.

Sources reveal that the cost of production of the film, including P&A was Rs 8 crores and more than 90 percent of the cost was already recovered through pre-selling the rights before its’ release.

The business earned from the Indian theatrical release will be the profits from the film for the production houses.

Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran had announced the launch of his own production company ‘Prithviraj Productions’ last year.Taking to Twitter to share the news, Prithviraj had said, Over the past one year, Supriya and I have been putting our efforts into realising a dream. And now it's finally time to share it with you. A new film production company! We have always wanted to give back to cinema and we couldn't possibly think of a better way to do that.

The actor mentioned that he will be instrumental in producing 'quality' Malayalam films and with '9' he proved one.

The profit made by '9' indeed is yet another feather in Prithvi’s hat!

Angane parayan pattilla. Some films really have big budget. For example Kayamkulam Kochunni had 35 crores while Odiyan which they announced as 50 crores should be only around 20 or max 30 crores.

Ivide thanne Mammottyude masterpiece okke 15 crores ennu paranja teams undu. Eniku thonnittundu enthu thenga aanu padathil ullathu ennu. . The movie was entertaining. But the budget was exaggerated.
