Vijay Sethupathi’s Mellisai is Puriyaadha Pudhir now
Looks like there is no stopping the trend of titling films after yesteryear hits. The latest to join this list is Vijay Sethupathi's suspense thriller Mellisai, directed by Ranjit Jeyakodi, whose makers have gone for a title change. The film has now been titled Puriyaadha Pudhirafter the 1990 film directed by KS Ravikumar. Talking about why they have decided to change the title, JSK Sathish, who is distributing the film, says, "I watched the film recently, and it is a thriller with the suspense element maintained well till the climax. Somehow, Mellisai as a title conveyed that the film was a softer film — a romance. So, after a joint discussion with the director and the producers, we changed it to Puriyaadha Pudhir."
Sathish reveals that yesteryear titles like Moodupani and Netrikkan were also considered. "We wanted the title to convey the presence of a mystery in the plot. And this title conveyed it the most and was instantly catchy," he adds.
The team has got the permission to use this title from the makers of the original Puriyaadha Pudhir. "Many producers hesitate to part with their titles, but when we approached RB Choudary, he readily gave us the go ahead," says Sathish, who adds that director Ranjit Jeyakodi had spoken to the original's director, KS Ravikumar to inform him of this development.
