Chitra Cinema: One of the oldest single screens in Mumbai to shut down
The iconic and renowned single-screen theatre in Dadar East ? Chitra Cinema ? will close its curtains on Thursday, May 16. Chitra cinema will shut down after screening its final show of Student Of The Year 2.
The single-screen cinema hall, which was operational for many years, will close its 550-seat auditorium because of poor business. Dara Mehta, the third generation owner of the single-screen theatre, informed that single screens are hardly making any money on weekdays. Mehta took over the business from his father PD Mehta in the year 1982.
Some of the most iconic Hindi movies have been screened at Chitra Cinema, including Jackie Shroff?s Hero which released in 1983. In the year 1961, Shammi Kapoor?s 'Junglee' was released and it ran for 25 weeks.
