Yes. I meant areas like Kakkanad where there could be potential for customers and feasible for theatre owners in the long run.

Few updates on DTS X in Indian theater:

Already some PVR screens in India equipped with dts X . Now PVR planning to upgrade the audio server fro existing and upcoming screens with GDC's latest audio processor which include

Inox also upgrading with same audio processor ,but looks like they are optingf only for 5.1/7.1 lpcm audio processors.

( ie.. Dolby has major occupancy in theaters with ther audio processor to play 7.1/5.1 lpcm and they marketting this as dolby 7.1 ( this is wrong infact ,,even though their audio processor will have some filters for manipulating the lpcm which is played ) ..

Kalpatta - Jaithra ( 2 screens will be dts X - confirmed)

NB: As of now , no 5.1 or 7.1 sound systems can be termed in the label of dts or dolby ..( even though dolby aggressively do this )
There are many audio processors in the market ..eg GDC, QSC etc...

Cinepolis in Pune and Kochi uses QSC audio processors.. If we ignore the issue that they don't put on sufficient LFE ( deep bass ) , cinepolis has the best multi channel audio output .( But deep bass is an importatnt factor as well .. hence considering it as below avg )

Only proprietery sound systems available now in the industry are :
Dolby Atmos , Auro 3D and DTS X .. ( Because normal cinema processor like qube / ufo or any digital audio processors are not capable of outputting a object based output in theaters, also there is limitation in channel output as well .. 10 channels max .. )

No idea about the current situation, but in film reel days , dts and dolby digital used in home cinema division was entirely different from that of the theater version..
In home cinema, dts and dolby digital sounded almost similar ,with just a narrow edge to dts .. But in theater , they sounded entirely different due to the codec used and the encoding method..
Not sure the status is this digital situation..
If content providers strip the spatial encoded data , then no use of boasting about atmos or dts X..
In fact these all started when dolby took advantage of the baccking off of sdds and dts from cinema division when digital cinema era started,,
This was true .. for a digital cinema , no need of any kind of a company branded sound technology .... in 2008 till 2011.. , in India , digital cinema was shown in default 5.1 multichannel surround lpcm ..No codec or compression required .. no company branded sound processor required.. the cinema processor would handle the sound output as well.
Then came dolby with their CP-650 /750 audio processor ( to be used in theaters ..) .. even though 7.1 has nothing to do with dolby or any proprietery sound systems , dolby aggressively marketted their sound processor ,and used dolby surround 7.1 as a brand name.... There were many other sound processor brands who has never used this tactic..

Later they came with spatial audio technology as Dolby Atmos.. As normal cinema processors like qube,ufo are not able to output channels more than 10 , and also no processing capacity for spatial audio , this reuired a proprietry brannd.. However existing qube/ufo processors needed a software upgrade to support ..

Whatver it is, while comparing the sound output form a theater where "non-dolby" branded processor is used, with theaters using dolby product ,, I felt dolby has made some adulteration in their products.. ..
While normally we expect a LPCM "redbook" quality sound.. dolby sounds bit different .. I would say NOT an impressive output.. instead of sound quality , they are focusing on gimmicks like additional bass , vibration etc.. both atmos and 7.1 .. sound speration from stage ,surround bass depth ,clarity of speech also felt better in normal LPCM output.
For me , no matter there are 64 channel or 32 channel.. the basic audio quality is what matters ..
Even in film reel days , dolby tried to make their own version of products .. this is why dolby digital was way different copared to DTS . DTS was aiming for redbook standard while dolby didn't seem to be..

( bass and vibration is nothing new .. it is achievable with analouge sound as well.. 1970's hollywood already experimented thsis with a sound system calld "Sensurround" .. hence these cannot be considered as a quality of digital audio ) ..


Moreover , many of you might have experienced 7.1 has more good surround compared to atmos at least in some situation.. .. This is actually depends on teh original sound mix.. if atmos or dts X is not required , no need to go for that..

PS: Those who thinks Loud volume , heart punding bass is what we called "sound effect" .. its not the case..
A digital audio doesn't need to be much louder.. People who have listened to original CD music system might be knowing , even with considerable volume , our ears wont be irritated and there will be no issues speakking in front of such a hifi system ,while playing..
Many theaters nowadays are not proving exact quality of digitak audio in my opinion..
