ഷനിൽ മുഹമ്മദിന്റെ കഥയ്ക്ക് റോജിൻ ഫിലിപ്പ് തിരക്കഥയും സംഭാഷണവും എഴുതി ഇരുവരും ചേർന്ന് സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത സിനിമയാണ് ഫിലിപ്പ്സ് ആൻഡ് ദ മങ്കിപ്പെൻ. പ്രാദേശിക ചരിത്രത്തിൽ നിന്ന് ഒരു മിത്തിനെയെടുത്ത് വികസിപ്പിച്ചാണ് കഥ ഒരുക്കിയിരുന്നത്. വില്ലിങ്ടൺ ഐലന്റിന്റെ നിർമ്മാണവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട് മങ്കീപ്പെൻ എന്ന മാജിക് പേനയുടെ കഥയായിരുന്നു ഇപ്പോഴിതാ ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ രണ്ടാം ഭാഗവും അണിയറയിൽ ഒരുങ്ങുകയാണ്.

സാന്ദ്ര തോമസിനൊപ്പം നടൻ വിജയ് ബാബും ചേർന്നാണ് ആദ്യഭാഗം നിർമ്മിച്ചത്. രണ്ടാം ഭാഗത്തിന്റെ ചർച്ചകൾ നടക്കുകയാണെന്നും തിരക്കഥ പുരോഗമിക്കുകയാണെന്നും നിർമ്മാതാക്കൾ അറിയിച്ചു.ചിത്രത്തിൽ പുതിയ കഥാപാത്രങ്ങൾക്ക് ഒപ്പം ആദ്യ ഭാഗത്തെ അഭിനേതാക്കളും അതേ വേഷത്തിൽ അഭിനയിക്കുന്നുണ്ടെന്നും അവർ വ്യക്തമാക്കി.

Philips and the Monkey Pen to get a sequel soon

The children's movie Philips and Monkey Pen stars master Sanoop Santhosh and Jayasurya in the lead roles.

With Children's Day around the corner, here's a happy news for kids, who loved watching Malayalam movie Philips and the Monkey Pen. The team of the children's movie, which was equally accepted by audience of all generation, will entertain the audience again with its sequel soon.
Vijay Babu, one of the producers of the 2013 film, has reportedly spelled the beans on its second part, which will deal with high school issues faced by students. The entire team of Philips and the Monkey Pen, including master Sanoop Santhosh, Jayasurya, Ramya Nambeeshan, Joy Mathew, Mukesh, child artistes Gourav Menon, Aakhash Santhosh, Antony Elrin D'Silva, Nidheesh Boban, among others, are said to be associating again for the upcoming film.


Philips and the Monkey Pen, helmed by Rojin Thomas and Shanil Muhammed, was narrated through the eyes of a class 5 boy and had garnered fabulous response from audience. Sanoop, brother of actress Sanusha Santhosh, was well appreciated for portraying the role of Ryan Philip in the movie.
The movie had asked the audience to try putting their leg into a child's shoes to know what they are thinking and dreaming.
The sequel version of the entertainer is expected to start rolling in January 2017, and will be bankrolled by Vijay and Sandra Babu under the banner of Friday Film House.

Monkey Pen sequel will focus on ‘high school’ problems!

Philips and the Monkey Pen was one of the most successful experimental films in the recent past in Malayalam. The debut directorial of Rojin Thomas and Shanil Muhammed, it was the coming-of-age story of a Class V child. And now, part two of the movie is in the offing, which will have the entire team of the original!

The scripting is on, and the film will take off only in January 2017. The film, says Vijay Babu, who will also be part of the sequel says, "Will feature the same child actors and the same characters but with different problems. At each age group, children have different issues. The original character, Ryan Philips, was just a representative of his age group, and so will be this protagonist."

This would be the first time Malayalam cinema is seeing a real time growth of children in two films, he adds. "While Monkey Pen had Class V kids, this one will have Class VIII children." Monkey Pen had Sanoop as Ryan, and Jayasurya and Remya Nambeesan as his parents, and they will be reprising their roles. Vijay Babu will essay Pappan mash.

Meanwhile, Rojin, who will be directing the sequel as well, says, "We had been on the look-out for an interesting theme for the second part when we hit upon this subject, which has not been explored much in films. It just happened that the theme was perfect as a sequel to Monkey Pen. Even the magical pen will be present in the film."
