Sword of the Stranger (Sutorenjia Mukōhadan):
    Decent watch.
Story of a Japanese boy with special powers chased by Chinese army and a stranger Japanese warrior meeting him and becoming his guard.
The story and animation were good.
The film reminds me of 'Yodha'.

5 Centimeters per second (Byōsoku Go Senchimētoru):
    Very good film.
Story of a guy told in three segments, his junior school period where he had a girl-friend, his senior high school period where one girl tries to befriend him and his 20s where he finally get to see his old love but one to depart soon.
Just one hour film, but well presented with good dose of emotions.
The title '5 Centimeters per second' stands for the speed with which the Cherry blossom petals fall, according to the girl.

Into the Forest of Fireflies' Light (Hotarubi no Mori e):
    Average one for me.
Story of a young girl going to her uncle's village a meeting a forest spirit.
She keeps coming back every year to meet him, but he will disappear once touched by humans.
The film tells how the feelings between them kept changing from her childhood to adolescence.
    Just 42 minutes movie.

Mai Mai Miracle (Maimai Shinko to Sen-nen no Mahō):
    Average one.
Children's story - a group of kids to teens in a 1950s village in Japan and their small adventures.
One girl has visions of the village 500 years ago and she shares it with her new friend.
How these imaginations shape and fee the children forms the story.

The Place Promised in our Early Days (Kumo no Mukō, Yakusoku no Basho):
    Science fiction film.
Set in an imaginary alternate period when Hokkaido island is ruled by Russians and the rest under Japanese-American rule.
2 young Japanese prodigies make a small plan to fly to the Soviet side to see a huge light tower visible from this side.
They promised their girl friend to take her with them to the tower, but actually the tower is connected to her memories and the future of Japan is connected with it.

The Age of Shadows (Korean, 2016)

Kim Jee-woon and an excellent cast successfully convey the intensity of 1920's Korea as well as the political intrigue brewing beneath. The film succeeds in creating a memorable sense of a dark and often frightening period of time. An espionage thriller packed to the brim with twists and action, there's a lot to like in this movie.

    Department Q series:

Danish movie series, about a police department investigating cold cases.. Really good ones.. Should watch the movies in the right order to understand how the lead characters are developed... Go for it if you like slow paced realistic thrillers..

    1. The Keeper of Lost Causes
    2. The Absent One
    3. A Conspiracy of Faith
    4. The purity of Vengeance

    Doctor Sleep
    Good horror thriller film.
The script is well written and the screenplay and direction is good enough to make an edge of the seat thriller, creating excitement, curiosity and anxiety.

    The Beguiled
    Average film for me.
Set in the American Civil war period, and injured North soldier is given asylum in a ladies home in South.
The women and girls there get beguiled by him and then things turn evil.
Good locations and slow paced movie, but nothing exciting, nothing much in the script or direction either.

    Memories of Murder
    Average one only for me.
Not able to appreciate to the level praised in social media nd movie forums.
Not able to thrill or excite much, film felt flat most of the time.

    Northmen: A Viking Saga
A decent watch, though nothing great about this one.
A group of Viking warriors get stranded in Scotland and now they have to survive and cross the island to safety and have the Scottish princess as ransom for it.

    Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Slayer

    Good one overall.
Fantasy thriller horror movie depicting President Lincoln as a Vampire hunter.
A decent script, good direction and good acting makes this a decent watch.
Seems to be American counterpart of our Bal Narendra

    The Pianist
Excellent war drama film set in WWII period.
The survival thriller of a Polish Jew pianist.
Very realistic film making, script, screenplay, locations, directions all are of the top class.

    Schindler's List
    Excellent film.
    Finally watched this classic.
Anther war drama film set in the WWII period.
Story of a Czech-German industrialist during Nazi period, who saved the lives of 1000+ Jews in the WWII.
One film that would remain among 'the Best of the best' in world cinema.

    North by Northwest
    Average crime thriller by Hitchcock.
Decent story but not so exciting screenplay or direction.
May be very fresh in 1950s, but looks outdated now.

    Mirai no Mirai:
    Good one.
    Fantasy family movie.
A young boy recently had a bay sister and got worried and angry as his parents care for the baby more.
Then the teenage version of the baby sister comes from future and asks him to protect and love his little sister.
Afterwards he is transported to the pas to see his mother's childhood, grandparents younger days etc.
Finally he travels to the future to see himself and his sister going along well.
These journeys help him understand his family better and shape his future life.

Journey to Agartha:(Hoshi wo Ou Kodomo)
    Above average film.
Story of a young school girl who travels to the land of the death under the earth and the things she realize once she is there.

Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms
    Just average one.
Film about a girl from a land of long living people coming to earth after their city is attacked, an become foster mother to an orphan child.
The film depicts how she brings up the child while remaining young for ever, and the boy ages.

    Colourful:
    Good one.
A soul reaches heaven and is given a second chance to live in the body of a boy who committed suicide.
The soul is assisted by an angel to guide him during the initial period.
But the soul has answers to find - Who is this boy, why he committed suicide, who was he himself, and why this body.

    My Neighbors the Yamadas:
    Average film.
The film is like a comic strip combined to form a movie.
The animation is also like pencil sketches.
Some good comedies here and there.
Somewhat like our 'Uppum Mulakum' Sitcom.

    The Call (Korean, Netflix, 2020)

Filled with captivating plot developments that will have you on the egde of your seat, this is one of the most exhilarating films I've seen in recent times. If you can get past its logical inconsistencies, The Call is a tense and interesting psychological thriller with excellent production highlighting the cause and effect relationship between parallel past and present timelines.

    Tenet:
    Frankly, not impressed.
Nolan's films are complex but impressive but this one was complex and unimpressive.

The convincing elements were missing in this one, at least he couldn't explain his time travel concept with the limited physics he used in the screenplay.
The curiosity factor was largely missing, and film really bored towards the climax portions.
The inversion of one strike team and its necessity was not clear to the viewer.

Poor performance by John David Washington could be the major issue, he couldn't carry the film and the audience with him.
With an expressionless face and impact less dialogues, he really let the whole film down.
It looked like he himself did not understand the role he played.

    Midnight Runners (Korean, 2017)

Midnight Runners delivers several impressive action set pieces and lots of big laughs, thanks to the assured comic chemistry between Park Seo-joon and Kang Ha-neul.
