First Half
Movie started off very well with narrations by Alancier, Paashanam Shaji, Sreejith Ravi and Sohan Seenulal. Then comes the usual cliche stuff, the reasons which led to Joppan's love failure. This part was short and was below average/poor. The song, Poovithalayi Nadha, was good.
The wait for real Thoppan was finally over in the Kabadi scene. Kabadi Scenes were just okay. From there it was a good laughing ride, with good one liners and counters by Joppan and Gang. The combination scenes between Mammootty and Mamtha was really nice. Chil Chinjilamayi was nice. The pre-interval scenes were average.
Second Half
Good start to the second half as well.... The fun ride continues till Joppan and Gang meet Salimkumar.... The scenes in the meditation centre were just average with a boring story of Aksharakutty. This part could have been avoided and has no relevance in the movie. Second half had lesser one liners and was still okay till Joppan meets Annie. Salim Kumar made no impact and the comic scenes were mostly forceful ones.
The last 15-20 minutes were full of cliches, here the director and scriptwriter tried a new approach and was really enjoyable. Cliche sentiments, Mammootty did very well and his timings played the key. I am not detailing this portion as this is something that has to be seen. The climax was also nice.
Positives
Mammootty was good as Joppan and his one liners were nice to watch. He was looking younger in Joppan than Kasaba.
Gang of Joppan was also treat to watch, Alencier, Paashanam Shaji, Sohan Seenulal and Sreejith Ravi all did their part well.
Andrie had no much role and was okay....
Mamtha was good and combination scenes with Mammootty was nice to watch in screen.
Salim Kumar was avg for me and his comic scenes were not having the punch.
Climax was predictable but still good.
Pre-climax cliche portions were good.
Negatives
The basic plot revolves around Love, Mammookka @65 and love may not be acceptable for some section of the public even though there are no cliched love scenes.
The story of Akshara and the "kuda fight"
The usual cliche reasons for Love failure of Joppan
Lack of mass scenes
Overall
If you approach Joppan as a comedy family movie, you won't be disappointed. I liked the character of Samson more than Joppan, may be repeat watch can change my opinion. But movie as a whole, Joppan has more fun moments than Thappana. I think even the fun moments in Joppan is more than BTR and climax portions are also better in Joppan. But making wise, BTR still stands best of recent Mammootty commercial movies. The status is very good here, considering the fact that movie is in its 50th day and will soon be released in DVDs this status is excellent.
