RANGOON (2017) : The filmmaker, the artist and the soldier.

Rangoon is an upcoming bollywood movie , directed by Vishal Bharadwaj and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. The project is a period film set during the World War II. It stars Kangana Ranaut, Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles. The film is scheduled for a February 24, 2017 release.

Vishal Bharadwaj was supposed to shoot this film after he completed Omkara in 2006. However, the film was stalled for unknown reasons. It was previously titled Julia. The screenplay was written by Matthew Robbins, who previously collaborated with Vishal for 7 Khoon Maaf in 2011.

The film's shooting began on 18 November 2015 in Arunachal Pradesh. Many junior artists from Manipur, Arunachal joined the crew for the first schedule. In mid January, the film's shooting was halted due to an injury to the male lead actor Shahid Kapoor and a Japanese co-actor. The shooting and the post production works of this movie was done in extreme secrecy that not so much is known about the film. It is known that Kangana Ranaut had to travel to New York City to research for her role, and then had to head to an island in Mexico to learn solo living.

'Rangoon' to release in February 2017

National Award winning filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj's upcoming period drama 'Rangoon' is all set to release on February 24 next year. The film, which stars Shahid Kapoor , Kangana Ranaut and Saif Ali Khan, is set in the 1940s amidst the turmoil of India's independence struggle and will feature some epic historic references. The film wrapped its final shoot schedule a couple of weeks back and the entire team, including Bhardwaj, producer Sajid Nadiadwala and Ajit Andhare, COO, Viacom18 Motion Pictures, are delighted with the results.


Sajid Nadiadwala: 'Rangoon' has good combination of actors and director

Producer-director Sajid Nadiadwala says his upcoming film 'Rangoon' has a perfect blend of good actors and an efficient director. 'Rangoon', a period romance-drama directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, stars Shahid Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Kangana Ranaut in the lead role. "There is a good track record of Vishal Bharadwaj and Shahid Kapoor with 'Kaminey' and 'Haider' and also Vishal and Saif Ali Khan have given memorable film 'Omkara'.

"Those two coming and with Kangana, who delivered hit films like 'Queen', 'Tanu Weds Manu', we are hopeful 'Rangoon' will do good business. I think it's all good combination," Sajid told PTI. The 'Kick' helmer said the shooting of the film is over and they are working on VFX. "The film is complete, only VFX is left.. It's releasing on February 24 next year," he added. Sajid, who is elated with the success of his latest release as a producer 'Dishoom,' is excited about his upcoming films - Salman Khan's 'Kick 2', Varun Dhawan starrer 'Judwaa 2' and Tiger Shroff's 'Baaghi 2'.


Vishal Bhardwaj: Post-production of 'Rangoon' exhaustive

Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj , who recently finished the shoot of 'Rangoon', says that the post-production of the film is 'exhaustive'. "We have completed the shooting of 'Rangoon' and are now working on the post-production. It is exhaustive, but I am enjoying the fatigue of the work," Bhardwaj said. 'Rangoon' features actors Shahid Kapoor , Saif Ali Khan and Kangana Ranaut.

While Shahid will be seen portraying an Indian National Army soldier in the film, Kangana will essay the role of a Broadway actress and Saif will be seen playing a Filmmaker from the black-and-white cinema era. 'Rangoon' is a Sajid Nadiadwala production, whose recent film 'Baaghi' is earning accolades from cinegoers. Bhardwaj said that he is 'eager' to watch the film.
