Munthirivallikal thalirkumbol is a refreshing portrayal of issues of middle class families of Kerala...Mohanlal plays the role of Ulahannan a panchayat secretary who is effected by mid life crisis and doesn't care much about his family and trying to involve more with his drink buddies... Meena as Anniamma as his disappointed wife who is craves for her husbands affections ...Ulahannan's life gets a U turn from here when he met a damsel Julie played by Neha saxena in his office he draws inspirations from his Drink buddy Venukuttan (Anoopmenon) who is a womanizer..but this affair doesn't last much long as he was afraid to face the consequences comes with it...but it helps him to rekindle the romance with his wife and the movies kickstarts from there.....First half is a mixed bag with lot of cliches and it drags a lot....but a refreshing and charming second half which scores highs and lifts the movie to a different dimensions considering the lackluster moments before interval ...Jibu Jacob has succeeded to bring out the best of lalettan's evergreen mannerisms and it worked like a charm in the second part...His chemistry with meena perfect comic timings and screen presence works wonders in the second part....Supporting casts also done well..to do the justice ..its a pleasant movie which connects wells with the family audiences..Director Jibu jacob and script writer sindhuraj(which is surprising considering his old ventures) has done a good job in handling controversial issue like infidelity which affects the families these days in a decent manner...although the movie have some flows in the first half...it gets the pace when it needs the most and ends as a decent family entertainer .....
