Raees – review from a fan

The storyline is thin and clichéd.. But Raees rises above this deficit because of the incredible screen presence of srk and competent handling of the clichéd police role by nawazuddin…the cat and mouse game between Nawaz and srk forms the back bone of the film…
Rahul dholakia was walking on a knife edge…on one side was the super stardom and another side you have realistic cinema which he is known for…he walked the path success fully in first half mixing masala and filling the raees character with all darkness…after the interval he starts pouring that nanma portion and you start getting the feeling that the director is confused…last portions are filmy but did end well with a decent climax…
The film takes a different pace once Nawaz is introduced…Nawaz character is flawless and the director has kept it realistic without adding any sympathy portion there…
Shahrukh’s screen presence is really breathtaking…it forces you to sit through the early portions of the second half….in some part of the film you see that amazing actor you saw in the start of the career before adi and karan made him open his arms…he carries the role really well…much better than he did don…. Only wish is Rahul dholakia was not carried away with his stardom and put those goodness element in the role…if the role had stayed dark throughout the film would have reached a different level…
Others in the star cast were good…zeeshan worth a special mention…but I didn’t see anything special in mahira for casting her…any Indian heroine would have done better…there was no need of the controversy at all…
Songs were blending in the film except zaalima which looked misplaced…I liked saanson ke in the intriguing voice of kk…the picturisation the sets all get you to that era….The dialect is not that gujarati..maybe they didn’t want to take a chance in south and east India…
I think this film will do well at the box office…If you ignore the cameo in yeh zindagi The last film which is better than this for me is my name is khan…so long…sincerely hope this does well…otherwise he will go back to dharma’s office and do some film starting with k ….
The multiplex audience is really pathetic with reactions ..i felt it with dangal and now with this one…I will watch it again in a single screen…

My rating…3.25 +.5(fanship tax) = 3.75…..
