    Default ♛ INDIA V BANGLADESH ♛ -Test Match ♛

The one-off Test between India and Bangladesh next month has been pushed back by one day. It was originally supposed to start on February 8, but the BCCI have opted for a late change to the schedule. The game, now, would span Thursday to Monday instead of Wednesday to Sunday.
"The Test was originally meant to start on a Wednesday. So we thought it would be better on all fronts if it starts on a Thursday and we could get crowds in for the Test," a BCCI official said.
Bangladesh return home from their tour of New Zealand on January 26 and after a short break would travel to India on February 1. It was also understood that they would play a three-day warm-up match against India A from February 3 in Hyderabad, although it won't be at the same ground as the Test match.
Although Bangladesh have toured India four times - 1990, 1998, 2006 and 2016 - they have never played Test cricket or even a bilateral series in the country. India were their opposition in their inaugural Test in 2000 andhave toured Bangladesh to play them in the longest format in 2004, 2007, 2010 and 2015

Wicketkeeper-batsman Liton Das, who scored a first-class double-century in the Bangladesh Premier League recently, has been recalled to Bangladesh's squad for the one-off Test in India on February 9.
Captain Mushfiqur Rahim and top-order batsmen Mominul Haque and Imrul Kayes, who missed Bangladesh's previous Test in Christchurch with injuries, returned to the squad, along with the fast bowler Shafiul Islam.
Left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman, who has recently returned following shoulder surgery but missed the two Tests in New Zealand with a hamstring injury, has been left out of the squad, with chief selector Minhajul Abedin stating he has not reached full match fitness yet. Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Nurul Hasan and Rubel Hossain were the others left out from the Christchurch squad.
Nurul kept wickets in Mushfiqur's absence in Christchurch, and scored a fighting 47 in the first innings, but selectors preferred Liton - who has a first-class average of 51.75 - over him. The returns of Mushfiqur, Mominul and Imrul brings Bangladesh's batting back to full strength. It also leaves them with a debate at the top of the order - Imrul is Tamim Iqbal's regular opening partner, but in his absence, in Christchurch, Soumya Sarkar opened for the first time in Tests and scored 86 and 36. If Bangladesh retain Sarkar, they might move him into the middle order - a move that potentially puts pressure on Mahmudullah, who has only scored one half-century in his last 16 Test innings.
With Shafiul's inclusion ahead of Rubel - who was their least impressive seamer in Christchurch - Bangladesh will have four pace options in Hyderabad, the others being Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Taskin Ahmed and Subhashis Roy. They will have Shakib Al Hasan, Mehedi Hasan and Taijul Islam to choose from in the spin department.
The match in Hyderabad will be Bangladesh's first ever Test in India, over sixteen years after they played their first ever Test - against India in Dhaka - in November 2000.

Thigh injury rules out Imrul Kayes

Imrul Kayes has been replaced in Bangladesh's squad by Mosaddek Hossain © AFP Bangladesh opening batsman Imrul Kayes has been ruled out of contention for the one-off Test against India, which starts on Thursday in Hyderabad. Imrul injured his left thigh while fielding on day two of the Bangladeshis' tour match against India A at the Gymkhana ground.
According to BCB media manager Rabeed Imam, it is a recurrence of the same injury that ruled Imrul out of the second Test against New Zealand in Christchurch last month.

In Imrul's absence, Soumya Sarkar - who replaced him in Christchurch, opened for the first time in Tests, and scored 86 and 36 - is likely to open alongside Tamim Iqbal in Hyderabad. Bangladesh have not called up an opener as Imrul's replacement, instead flying in the middle-order batsman Mosaddek Hossain, who played the ODIs and T20s in New Zealand but was overlooked for the Tests.
Imrul's injury comes as a significant blow to Bangladesh ahead of their first-ever Test on Indian soil. While Imrul's Test record is modest - 1432 runs at 28.64 - he and Tamim have forged what is by far Bangladesh's most successful opening partnership. Together, they have scored 2205 runs, and average an impressive 47.93 as a pair with four century stands.

    Bangladesh squad
: Mushfiqur Rahim (capt & wk), Tamim Iqbal, Sabbir Rahman, Mahmudullah, Shakib Al Hasan, Mehedi Hasan, Taijul Islam, Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Soumya Sarkar, Taskin Ahmed, Subashis Roy, Liton Das (wk), Mominul Haque, Shafiul Islam, Mosaddek Hossain.

Bangladeshis made to work hard in draw

    Bangladeshis 224 for 8 dec (Mushfiqur 58, Sarkar 52, Choudhary 4-26) and 73 for 2 (Tamim 43*) drew with India A 461 for 8 (Panchal 103, Shankar 103*, Iyer 100)Scorecard

The Bangladesh bowlers may not be taking the confidence of bags of wickets into the Test against India on Thursday, but they should be better prepared for long grinds in the field after a full day's working over by India's A team. Priyank Panchal, Shreyas Iyer and Vijay Shankar scored centuries each to make sure the two-day practice game at the Gymkhana ground ended in a draw.
Panchal and Iyer pounded out 152 runs in the first session. That indicates how much the Bangladeshi bowlers suffered, but there was also some collateral damage. Iyer, who was dropped on 86 by Mehedi Hasan, struck a net bowler standing on the edge of the boundary with a six. The boy was tended to by the doctor at the ground and was reportedly fine. Panchal struck 11 fours and a six in his 148-ball 103 while Iyer hammered a dozen fours and four sixes in his 92-ball 100. Both of them retired to give the others a bat.
Medium-pacer Subashis Roy then had Rishabh Pant caught at long-on before converting a smart caught and bowled chance off Ishank Jaggi. Ishan Kishan also got out cheaply, stumped off left-arm spinner Taijul Islam before crowd favourite Hardik Pandya was given out leg-before to the same bowler.
Shankar reached his hundred in the 90th over, making it three centuries on the day. He took only 83 balls before India A declared on 461 for 6. Taijul and Subashis took three wickets each.
The declaration gave Bangladesh an hour to bat, in which time they lost two wickets scoring 73 runs in 15 overs. Tamim Iqbal struck three fours and a six in his unbeaten 43.

'I don't believe this is a historic Test' - Mushfiqur Rahim

'We want to tell world cricket what we can do in India, I don't think about how many years later we are playing' © Associated Press Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim has brushed aside the portrayal of their maiden Test in India next week as a "historic" one, saying that he feels it is more important to treat the game as an opportunity to show Bangladesh's measure in world cricket. He also hopes that a good performance in the one-off game will prompt the BCCI to invite them frequently.
The team leaves Dhaka on February 2, to play a two-day practice match against India A and the Test in Hyderabad, which will be Bangladesh's first in India since gaining ICC Full Member status in 2000. Interestingly, it was the BCCI's push that was vital in their ascent from Associate Member, and India played against them in their inaugural Test on November 10, 2000. India toured Bangladesh four more times to play Tests thereafter.
"I'm a little surprised, I don't believe that this is a historic Test," Mushfiqur said. "Take for example when we play against Zimbabwe. The pressure is more because if we lose against them then there is nothing more shameful than that. I will say that it is better that we are going there now and not five years ago.
"We want to tell world cricket what we can do in India. I don't think about how many years later we are going to play in India. We want to play in such a way that India invites again and again. This to me is just another Test match."
Mushfiqur, who has returned to the Test squad after missing Bangladesh's last game in New Zealand due to a finger injury, said that he hopes the team puts together a collective performance. Bangladesh lost both Tests in New Zealand but gave the home side some tough sessions.
"I hope that the recent performers will hold on to their form and put together a team performance. And to those who haven't done well in the recent past, you have a chance to give a good account of yourself.
"A team effort will give us a good result. They have a strong squad, and are always really good in their home conditions. We want to do well against them over five days, and not just two or three days," he said.
Mushfiqur said Bangladesh's squad is balanced, with four pace bowlers and three specialist spinners and depth in the batting department.
The return of Imrul Kayes, Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur himself means that Bangladesh have their full batting strength back. Soumya Sarkar and Imrul are likely to be in competition for the role of Tamim Iqbal's opening partner, while Mahmudullah, Shakib Al Hasan and Sabbir Rahman will be expected to make runs in the middle order.
"No matter what conditions they offer, we have a balanced side. We have enough pacers and spinners and depth in batting.
"I think our batsmen will have a challenge in their hands against their world-class attack. As a bowling unit we are inexperienced, but one or two bowlers did do well in New Zealand. If we can perform as a team we can do well against any other good team."
