Take Off - "A Stunning Piece Of Art "
Rating - 4/5
Detailed Analysis
______________
Take Off was more of a low-profile movie until the release of two hard-hitting trailers that sky-rocketed the expectations surrounding the movie in no time.Based on the real-life incident of rescue operations confining a group of nurses from kerala who were held as war captives by the rebel group in the Iraqi city of Tikrit during the civil war in 2014,Take Off is a well-etched tribute to the profession of nursing that celebrates one's sense of pride for being a citizen of India.
The richness in the making of the Take Off will make you rethink you are watching a Mollywood film, given the budget constraints associated with a movie from Mollywood.Such is the grandeur in production of Take Off that it deserves a standing ovation for making a movie of international standards in Mollywood with such a small amount of money being spent.
The first half of the movie threw light on the plight of Sameera [Played by Parvathy] who is a representative of those thousands of nurses who are destined to try their luck for overseas jobs due to lack of decent salary and reputation for their service back in our country.
There were notable moments of sheer brilliance in Mahesh's narrative and the first half of the movie succeeded in laying a thick foundation for the much awaited rescue mission undertaken in the second half.Leaving aside a moment or two of strong melodrama, the first hour of the movie was lovable and blessed with dedicated acting form the whole of the cast.
The second half unfolds an enthralling tale of survival and the subsequent rescue of the stranded by the Indian government which was presented in a very effective manner as to bring a sense of relief for the viewers once the rescue was successfully completed,as impactful as in 2015 bollywood superhit Airlift which was based on a similar plot of rescue that had Akshay Kumar playing the lead.
The narrative style of Mahesh Narayan reminded me of that of Rajesh Pillai of whom this one was a dream project along with the road movie 'Motor Cycle Diaries',which I believe will get a cinematic life in the near future. The talented editor Mahesh could showcase his expertise in direction with this debut flick that's sure to be remembered for along time.
If you ask me to point out the backbone of the film,it will be the extra-ordinary performance by Parvathy who was at her best portraying the role offered for her in the best possible manner that you can't even dare think of another actress putting in the shoe as far as the particular role is concerned. The act was as good and even better at times than her brilliant portrayal of Kanchanamala in the 2015 blockbuster Ennu Ninte Moideen. An equally good supporting performance by Kunchako Boban was notable and he enacted the role of male nurse in the most subtle and efficient manner the screenplay demanded.Fahadh Fazil too was on his top gear mouthing powerful dialogues that evoked claps at regular intervals in the narrative.Asif Ali's cameo was effective.Among others Anjali Aneesh Upasana,Devi Ajith,Praksah Belewadi etc were good.
The Songs and BGM by Shaan Rahman and Gopi Sunder were impactful and integral to the storyline.BGM towards the climax portion in particular was exhilarating and evoked goosebumps.Cinematography by Kamal Hassan's much loved Sanu John Vargheese was brilliant and he could recreate the perfection of his acclaimed war drama Vishwaroopam released back in 2013.Editing part was handled well by Mahesh Narayan and Abhilash Balachandran.
Overall,Take Off is a never before experience in Mollywood that deserves a watch from the big screens at the earliest!
