    Detailed Analysis
    ______________
Debutant Haneef Adeni's 'The Great Father' had all the potential and hype to be the much needed break for Megastar Mamootty who was in search for a solid super hit to regain his slightly weakened star power at the Mollywood boxoffice as his recent flicks like White,Kasaba,Puthiya Niyamam and Thoppil Joippan failed to make big numbers at the boxoffice despite the fact that the latter three were successful as far as their final business is concerned. The big hype that the stylish teaser and posters generated indicated the movie to be a stylish thriller with Mammookka in the limelight.

If you ask me whether the movie is worth all the hype that it generated,my answer is yes,but only in bits and parts! The Great Father has a top-notch performance from Megastar as the USP,but a tight screenplay and brilliance in narrative that an engaging thriller demands is missing, the prominent reason why TGF fails to join the league of sought-out thrillers from mollywood like Drishyam,Mumbai Police or Yavanika to name a few.

Eventhough the starting portions of the movie were weak especially the school sequences which were poorly handled, the movie gained some grip once the central plot was registered with Mammooty's tradermark style sentimental sequences being a saving grace for the major part of the first half. One thing I felt distasteful was the protagonists mouthing dramatic dialogues immediately after the unexpected tragedy which could have been avoided. The interval punch was decent and gave hint of a better second half.

The second half of the movie presented how the hero manages to find the culprit behind the crimes through a cat and mouse chase chase that looked half-baked due to the screenplay giving more importance to style and gloss without utilzing brains that's expected of a taut thriller.

The villain character wasn't developed into required depth and clarity with a supporting backstory and this fact backfired badly in the path of a thrilling experience. There were a good number of well-written dialogs for Mammookka in the movie, but the situations leading to those dialogues weren't powerful enough to gain the impact that's expected from them.

Coming to the performances,it was a one-man show by megastar Mammootty who's charismatic act lifted the atmosphere of the narrative at times of dull. Both his glossy looks and acting talent was utilized well by Haneef Adeni evnethough the screenplay couldn't complement the same.Arya's character was half baked, but he managed to give out a pretty decent performance.Sneha had very less screen presence than expected but did her job well.Baby Anigha's performance was good. The supporting cast include likes of Kalabhavan Shajon,Kalabhavan Pramod ,Miya etc who all did their part well.

The songs by Gopi Sunder were average. Background music was handled well by Sushin Shyam.Cinematography by Roby Varghese Raj was okayish.Cuts by Noufal Abdulla were neat.

Overall, The Great is a passable thriller that's worth a watch for a dedicated performance from the megastar.

Final Verdict::Suffering big time due to humongous expectations,The Great Father is a strictly average family thriller that hasn't got much to offer except for few good acting bits and a stylish performance by Megastar Mammootty.Watch it if you are a fan of Mammookka!
