She can't do justice to comedy roles or violent roles. Still remember Rascals, she was really cringe-worthy in the movie.

Manikarnika is a story about Rani Laxmibai of Jhasi, one of the key faces of the Indian Rebellion movement of 1857.

Kangana Ranaut brings alive the legendary war hero with her grit and determination. She might look frail at the first go but she is an ace warrior with a swordmanship that gives sleepless nights to British officers.

We are used to seeing period drama through the lens of Sanjay Leela Bhansali or Ashutosh Gowariker but Manikarnika makes up for any lack of grandness with strong characters, powerful dialogues by Prasoon Joshi and a tight screenplay.

Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi starts by introducing us to Manikarnika (Kangana Ranaut)from Pune, who marries the King of Jhasi and takes the name of Rani Laxmi Bai. During the course of the film, we see Kangana as a warrior, wife, mother, leader, patriot and finally a people's queen.

The film doesn't attempt to fake feminism but rather provides enough instances as it builds momentum.

Kangana debuts as a director and it shows as the film captures a sensitive side to the male characters and strongly portrays common women of the era, who were part of the rebellion.

Manikarnika belongs to Kangana and she is back as a true war hero.

Cast: Kangana Ranaut, Ankita Lokhande, Danny Dengongzpa

Directors: Kangana Ranaut, Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi

    Ratings: 3.5/5

Saw the movie yesterday. What a grandeur? What a performance? Kangana just nailed it.

She has matured a lot from Kangana of her initial days where she played a drug addict , schizophrenic etc.

    Will post a detailed review

Opening porallo 7-8C ...should have been better considering the budget
