Screenwriter Sethu from the Sachi-Sethu duo has penned 5 lone screenplays in his lackluster filmy career with the latter four high-profile entertainers being colossal disasters that failed to accomplish any acclaim critically and commercially.The case of director Kannan Thamarakulam is no less different form Sethu's with both of his directorials "Thinkal Muthal Velli Vare" and "Aadupuliyattam" failing to make any mark in Mollywood industry.

'Achaayans' is yet another painfully mediocre creation from Sethu and Kannan Thamarakulam that never tries to be serious enough to handle the "Could have been presented much better "plot of the movie.The screenplay is lazy,pointless and outright cliched with the monotonous treatment by Kannan making it worse with the progress of the storyline.

The movie overtries to be a loud comedy entertainer in the first half with overflow of low-brow humor failing miserably to induce any laughs except in one or two instances in entire narration.The second half is more of an amateurish investigative thriller that holds a poorly-conceived suspense element,made worse by horribly disturbing background score that will irritate you in no time.

Coming to the performances,the only notable act was by Prakash Raj playing the role of a police officer trying to unveil the truth behind a murder incident.Jayaram didn't have much to perform except to act as a light-hearted drunkard,a cake walk for an actor of his caliber.Unni Mukundan looked struggling particularly in serious sequences.Adil ibrahim and Sanju Shivram were adequate.Amala Paul's act was inconsistent ranging from horrible to good in bits and parts.Anu Sithara,Siddique etc were okayish.

The worst aspect of the movie was the unbearably loud and nonsensical songs by Ratheesh Vega who once again proved that he's the best in the business to compose horrible albums that will make one sick on the second try.Background Score was no exception and one among the worst in recent years.Cinematogrpahy by Pradeep Nair and Editing by Ranjith K.R were mediocre.

Overall,Achayans is an avoidable masala entertainer that fails to provide any sort of thrills and excitement that one expects from a movie of this genre.
