Adventures Of Omanakuttan - " A Decent Experimental Flick With Director's Stamp All Over It "
Rating - 3/5
Detailed Analysis
______________
Asif Ali's "Adventures Of Omanakuttan" was in the production stage for long and aroused curiosity in the minds of atleast a small section of the movie buffs for its intriguing stills and trailer that assured a novel plot in store.Sadly, the response that the movie received after the release was lukewarm and the disheartening news that it was removed from few release centres even after gathering decent crowd evoked a social media campain in support of the movie which proved fruitful in inviting good crowds by the end of the first week.
Coming to the movie,'Adventures of Omanakuutan' is handled by a relatively fresh crew and I must say their hearty effort to present an altogether fresh film makes it worthy of some applause for its novelty in presentation and soundness in the technical module. The screenplay co-written by Rohith and Sameer Abdul was bit complicated[especially the identity crisis part],but manages to keep the audience engaged by employing fresh humor and dedicated performances from the lead actors.
The first half of the movie was more like a prologue to the still better second half which had better pace and was more engaging on comparison with a hilarious finale that was well received by the viewers. The way Omankuttan's story is presented was fresh and the small twists spread through the narrative ensured that the story is nevertheless engaging for its lengthy runtime of 166 minutes.
The narrative by Rohith VS moves in a lethargic pace that reminded me of films by Lijo Jose Pellishery with a distinctive style unlike run of the mill films releasing every weekend in mollywood. This positive might not be chewable for at least a section of the normal mass masala audience who are into fast paced pot-boilers in general. There were a good number of lengthy sequences like the night-walk scene by Asif Ali which could have been cut short to make the presentation more crisp and engaging for a wider section of the movie going audience.
The songs composed by Arun Muraleedharan and Dawn Vincent weren't catchy and failed to make any good to the narration. The Background Score was rather good and complimenting the storyline.Cinematogrpahy part was handled very well by Akhil George.Cuts by Livingston Mathew were fine,
The most alluring thing about "Adventure Of Omanakuttan" was a top notch performance by Asif Ali,a much needed break for the young actor after the miserable fate of his much hyped sequel to Honey Bee. Asif was in full control of the charcater Omanakuttan and succeeded in creating a connect with the viewers in no time.Bhavana shared good chemistry with Asif Ali and gave a good supporting act.Sidhiqque was hilarious.Aju Vargheese,Kalabhavan Shajon,Saiju Kartup etc did their part well.
Overall,Adventures Of Omankuttan is a decent experimental movie that's worth a watch from the bigscreens.
