Doesnt David De Gea's figures given in previous page also underline how poor Utd defense is?
Amanda Staveley will have to return with a bid of ?300m, without any clauses, to persuade Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley she is serious about wanting to buy the club.
That is the figure that could tempt him to revive the proposed takeover after appearing to walk away from the negotiations earlier this week. But sources close to the billionaire insist he does not believe that will happen and dismissed a recent interview by Staveley with The Times as a face-saving exercise.
Instead, the Ashley camp do not expect any progress to made on the takeover, with Staveley, or anyone else, until March at the earliest as everyone will want to wait to see whether Rafa Benitez can keep the team in the Premier League.
Telegraph Sport understands that every bid Staveley has made above ?250m during this drawn out, and increasingly acrimonious process, is understood to have contained clauses which restricted the amount Ashley was paid up front.
One of these was for ?50m if Newcastle won the Champions League, while there has also been a relegation clause that would protect Staveley if the Magpies were relegated this season.
Although Staveley’s camp claim they have been told the asking price is ?350m, Telegraph Sport has learned that is not the price that has been discussed with others who have shown an interest over the last few months. Instead, Ashley has indicated he will sell for ?300m, if the money is paid in one lump sum immediately.
That challenge has now been made to Staveley, who is adamant she is still interested in buying the North-East club.
However, with Benitez’s side embroiled in a relegation battle and currently just three points above the drop zone, nobody, including Staveley, appears to want to take the risk of buying a club that could lose ?100m in revenue if it tumbles into the Championship.
As things stand, Staveley has still not made the sort of bid that would tempt Ashley to sell and unless she returns with another, which gets to ?300m without any of the clauses inserted into earlier bids, it is difficult to see things progressing. The only bid on the table at this moment from her is for ?250m, which was dismissed by Ashley.
Staveley told The Times: “I’m very much still interested in buying Newcastle – and our bid remains on the table.”
Staveley described the accusations from Ashley that she is not a serious bidder and is just a publicity seeker as “hurtful and absurd”.
And she says she would have invested ?200m into Newcastle on new players and updating the club’s training ground.

Not so poor..but surely got to do better...and this is one thing I've been saying since start of season..we are really missing eric bailly!! Jones is quality but rojo n smalling..not quite!! Lindelof is slowly getting there and axel will do gud in some years time hopefully!!
Valencia is solid defensively in RB
Young isn't that reliable defensively although he gives us great option in an attacking sense (when we play 3 at the back especially) ! Shaw is getting back to form with his gud run of games now and jose has high praise for him now deservedly so!!
Another concern is there is no proper deputy for matic! He needs some rest for sure after starting almost all games in PL! With Carrick probably retiring at end of season, as jose said already there could be a CDM signing coming in!

PSG have made Pep Guardiola their number one target to take over and believe they will eventually get him. [Mirror]
Lw has been consistent source of goals (martial and rashford rotation worked well from that left side) and lingard at AM has kept mkhi out of team with some top class perfo . Lingard martial and rashford combined for a total of 19 goals and 13 assists from 3300 minutes( almost a goal/assist every 100 minutes)
But agree there isn't that one player like silva who can do magic in our team..mata somehow doesn't have the goals+assist return as we would hav expected this season!! Which is why we have been saying quote frequently that there should be one real good signing at RW who can keep our Right wing as effective as our left wing!!
Over reliance on pogba is so evident...as many rightly said we are a different team without pogba! But our left wing has been top quality too and lingard at AM has been really effective too recently!!
Will be missed badly one of my all time fav united players!! Hopefully he can play some part in the final phase of the campaign ..his heart condition seems to be ok now
Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has told the club he will take up their offer of a first-team coaching role at the end of the season, according to manager Jose Mourinho.
Carrick, 36, has not played since experiencing an irregular heart rhythm in September, but he began training again in November*following treatment.
"The club would be very happy for him to do that. I would be very happy also for him to do that," Mourinho said.
"I expect him to join," he added.
"[He had] a few months without even training so now he is in his second week of training with the team. He is a very important player for us.
"I think it is a good decision for the team and a good decision for him to finish playing football and not injured or with some problem."
Carrick, who has 34 England caps, had a treatment called a cardiac ablation after "feeling strange" during the second half of a 4-1 EFL Cup victory over Burton on 20 September - his only appearance of the season.
The British Heart Foundation says an ablation is a treatment that aims to control or correct certain types of abnormal heart rhythms.
Carrick*joined Manchester United*from Tottenham in 2006 and has won five Premier League titles, the Champions League, Europa League and Fifa Club World Cup with the club.

aguero scores a hat-trick with the goals coming off his right foot, his left foot and his head...
65 points... continuing on top of table... 14 games left...
Utd, Chelsea, Arse win...facing the bottom team after facing the top dog. Not easy. We must be on top of our game. We have to be..If 2nd place is the aim, we must win!
