Introduction
Last time I saw a film from the theatre was also titled around the theme holidays (Sunday Holiday). This time I went through various film reviews in FK and made up my mind to watch NNOI. I thought NNOI is the best among the new releases.
Plot
The film is a cinematised version of Chandramathi’s book (memoirs) under the same title (book is available from DC Books, price: Rs 40). The film has an upper middle class as its pivot. Sheila (Shanthi Krishna) realises one day that she has been affected by cancer. Basically a cowardly family, Chacko (Lal) and family take time to digest the bad news. However, the strong-willed Sheila inspires and even scolds the other members of the family to recuperate from deadly decease as well as from the scary thoughts that naturally get attached to it. The film ends with a happy note about the recovery of Sheila.
Presentation
As mentioned above, the basic story is an inspirational one and hence do not appeal to the audience who comes to celebrate Onam with their families. In order to entertain the audience, the writers & director try to present the issue in question with the topping of some light hearted comic numbers. But those dark shaded comedies make the dish (film as entertainment) a strange mix of contrary ingredients that might very well cause indigestion.
Afterthought
The film is recommended to all, not as an entertainment, but as an inspiration to never lose heart despite the many difficult situations of life.
Please choose a different film to celebrate Onam, you may watch this film after Onam for your own as well of your family’s inspiration.
Suggestions for Improvement
The film lags in almost all parts.
Both Songs do not impress at all (music as well as the verse)
The film could have been released at a different time, not in a festival time. There was an outgoing traffic all through the film. Many did not wait even until the interval!
In one sentence, the film looks like a crab fry in the Onasadya - a total mismatch for the season!

I think the over positive reports is doing a bit of damage.

I loved the movie and took my family yesterday....they felt it very average.....those who have not watched it yet go with limited expectations and you will love it.
