Did not have plans to watch this movie. Later changed my mind after hearing good reviews about the movie. Was expecting a touching realistic love story. To be frank I was dissappointed big time. I would suggest Aashiq to watch Annayum Rasoolum to see how a love story should be presented in a realistic way and at the same time never loose the feel of a love story.
Movie starts of with a black episode of the hero and a crime done by the hero. As with any criminal characters in Malayalam cinema hero ends up in Kochi and meets his old love. In parallel there is a track of heroine who is an aspiring and struggling actress. The first half completely focusses on the relationship between these two and in between the cops investigation about the crime involving hero. The investigation is supposed to give some thrillign moments which is never attained in the movie. In between there are some kissing which is really not needed but is required for the bold mood the director wants to maintain in the movie. Might be somebody has told him that smooching is must for a bold movie especially if the heroine is bold and modern !!!! First half thus ends without invoking any feelings in the viewers. A love story presented in a realistic and classy way with some classic shaddy dialogues Apparently lot of comedy scenes which some people in the theatre were laughing. For me none of those comedy moments worked out.
Second Half the movie takes a more serious turn (First half was also serious for me eventhought it was supposed to have lot of comedy dialogues ). Focus is more on the struggling actor, her friend's acting career troubles and then of course some close encounter of our hero with cops. Again the film becomes bolder in the 2nd half with some more sex scenes in addition to smooching scenes. WOW! The movie elevates itself to a BOLD and MODERN CLASSIC level with those scenes Also a superb dialogue - SEX is not a PROMISE. At last there is a heroine in Malayalam Film who agrees to what most of the men in Malayalam Film Industry has always been saying. SEX is not a promise. Might have to be changed for few as SEX is not a PROMISE as long as it is not done in Casting Couch But in Casting Couch it is indeed a promise and is exploitation
Positives
Tovino - His performance is awesome.
Aishwarya - Her performance is also awesome except in some areas.
Cinematography - Felt it nice.
Climax carries some limited emotions.
Negatives
Direction and Script - Confused direction and script. Film presented in a realistic way with lot of unrealistic situations and dialogues.
Forced comedy scene which again works against the realistic mood of the movie.
Lacks the feel of a Love Story.
Unwanted Smooch and Sex scenes which has no significance in the story line but is included due to some false thought that this makes the film bolder and modern.
Overall Summary - Mr. Aashiq Abu please go and watch Annayum Rasoolum if you want to learn how a love story should be presented in a realistic way.
Crowd Response - Some people were laughing for the comedies. At the end no much response. I think there are good number of people who have liked the movie.
Rating - 2/5.

Thankss....
thanks for review.. even i felt that love making scene was totally unnecessary. and that dialogue sex is not a promise in the storyline has meaning since poor mathan thought after this love making scene, she will go with him to settle but alas, she did it as she was in a GOOD MOOD that night.. heroine is as confusing as the director..
