That could movie watching effect. You may be watching more Telugu movies than Kannada. Cinema kandal language vegam padikkum.

Otherwise I dont see any similarities between Telugu and Malayalam in words. But Malayalam has more similarities with Kannada and Tamil.

Just like people in Kerala started learning Hindi after the advent of Doordarshan

I won't say Malayalam and Telugu has similarities but for I found telugu easier to follow than Kannada. And do agree that watching Telugu films helped me with the language

Pandu thotte ullatha .Aishwarya Rai Shilpa Shetty Deepika Padukone Sneha Ullal all of them belong to Karnataka though they are not purely kannadigas .

Telugu is more easier to learn or to speak comparing kannada .....even used to watch the movies in both
