The rights to adapt this novel, written by Anuja Chauhan, have been bagged by Aarti and Pooja Shetty, while Abhishek Sharma will be directing the screen adaptation. As per a report in Mumbai Mirror, Dulquer Salmaan has been roped in to play the male lead in the movie. A source close to the project revealed, “It’s an interesting character and Dulquer has liked the script. While he has committed to the project he is yet to sign on the dotted line.”
If the report is true, this would be Dulquer's second movie in Bollywood. His first movie is Karwaan, that also stars Irrfan Khan and Mithila Palkar, and is scheduled to release this year.
Coming back to The Zoya Factor, the book narrates the whimsical tale of a PR executive, Zoya Solanki, played by Sonam Kapoor who was born at the moment when Indian had lifted the 1983 World Cup. During an assignment, she comes across a low-on-spirits Indian cricket team who invites her to have breakfast with them. When they win the match that day, the team, as well as the media, hail Zoya as the lucky charm of the team. This puts her at crossroads with the handsome captain, who believes luck has no place on the cricket field. In August last year, Sonam had put out a tweet where she confirmed being a part of the movie. “Super excited to work with amazing sister duo, Aarti and Pooja Shetty, with the brilliant Abhishek Sharma on Anuja Chauhan’s Zoya factor (sic),” she had tweeted. The movie is expected to start shooting in the summer.

Zoya Factor film is being produced by Fox Star Studios and Sonam Kapoor acquired the right of the book. A source close to the the production house confirmed about Dulquer Salmaan's involvement with the project.
Malayalam actor Dulquer Salmaan, predominantly seen in Malayalam films, has been finalised as the lead actor opposite Bollywood star Sonam Kapoor for the big screen adaptation of author Anuja Chauhan’s ‘Zoya Factor’. The love story will go on floors later this year and will be helmed by Abhishek Sharma of Tere Bin Laden fame.
Zoya Factor is being produced by Fox Star Studios and Sonam acquired the right of the book. A source close to the the development confirmed about Dulquer’s involvement with the project. “He is on board but we will make an official announcement about him and the film in a week or so. We are waiting for Padmaavat (row) to settle down (the film releases this Friday) and after that we will announce the film,” the insider told indianexpress.com.
Zoya Factor is about a Rajput girl named Zoya Singh Solanki who meets the Indian Cricket Team through her job as an executive in an advertising agency and ends up becoming a lucky charm for the team in the 2010 Cricket World Cup. Last year at the second edition of MAMI Word to Screen Market, Sonam confirmed that she would star in the film. “It is a beautiful love story. It is about cricket, love and Zoya. I am very excited about being a part of it,” the actor had said.
Zoya Factor will mark Dulquer’s second Bollywood outing after his Hindi debut Karwan, which is yet to release. Produced by Ronnie Screwvala, the film also stars Irrfan Khan, Kirti Kharbanda and debutant Mithila Palkar. The film will arrive in theatres later this year.
