Madura Veeran- "A Strictly Average Mass Entertainer That Celebrates Tamil Pride"

P.G.Muthaiah who has worked as a cinematographer for more than half-a-dozen Kollywood films like Poo,Settai and Saguni has wielded the megaphone for 'Madura Veeran',that has Captain Vijayakanth's elder son Shanmuga Pandian playing the lead on his second flick after a lackluster debut with 2015 action-drama 'Sagaptham' that received unanimous negative repsonse post its release.Yet another addition into the list of films celebrating the unity of Tamil community,the just 120 minutes long movie is a rather watchable mass entertainer with some good music,action and emotional sequences.

The major positive of the movie is its impressive musical score by Santosh Dhayanidhi who could succeed in conceiving effective folk-based tunes and bgm that perfectly suited the narrative.The emotion surrounding 'Jallikkettu' and the culture of Tamil Nadu was utilized well by Muthaiah who mixed it up into a template masala flick that's enjoyable atleast in bits and parts of its running time.

The humor element didn't work-out well at various instances and could have been presented better.The second half of the movie,especially the climax portions were flawed with the suspense element being revealed pretty ordinarily in a hurry-burry manner.

Shanmuga Pandian has certainly improved with his acting abilities from his first film,but still needs to work upon his dialogue delivery that lacks the much needed punch when it comes to hard-hitting one-liners.The flashback sequences involving Samuthirakani were exhillarating and blessed with a towering performance by the talented actor.Debutant actress Meenakshi played her part really well.Rest of the cast were okayish.

Overall,Madura Veeran is a watchable village-based mass masala flick that may turn a decent watch if you go with low expectations.
