Ira grabbed the eyeballs of moviegoers and industry insiders by its impressive marketing strategy that cleverly utilized references from the infamous actress assault case that shook the Mollywood industry last year.Eventhough the similarity ended with few instances involving the media trial that followed the case,Ira is nevertheless a watchable old-school action thriller that's saved by good direction,music and neat performances.

The screenplay written by Naveen John is a decent mix of humor,sentiments,suspense,romance and action penned in the usual template of action thrillers that have been produced during yesteryears from Mollywood.Although the basic plot and storyline is done to death in movies down south,there was ample dose of entertaining elements that managed to make the whole affair a paisa-vasool one-time watch from the big screens.

The narrative style reminded me of films by director Vysakh whom the debutant Saiju S.S was an assistant of ,and likewise his mentor Saiju has succeeded in covering up the loopholes in the screenplay with his fast-paced narrative style that hints the rise of a promising director to look out for in future.The second half lost its pace during the flashback sequences,but was made up by a neat conclusion that handled the suspense element well and good.

Performancewise,Unni Mukundan did a neat job enacting the character entrusted on him well.Gokul Suresh reminded me of action superstar Gopi during his early days in Mollywood,being particularly good in roamntic sequences and portions towards the climax.Niranjana Anoop and Miya played their part well.Prashanth Alexander,Neeraja,Shankar Ramakrishnan,Alencier Ley etc gave notable supporting performances.

The movie has two songs composed by Gopi Sunder that were melodious and worthwhile for repeat hearing.The background score by Gopi himself was adequate.Cinematography by Sudheer Surendran was good.Editing part was handled neatly by John Kutty.

Overall,Ira is an average thriller aimed at the mass audience,that qualifies for a one-time watch from the cinemas.
