Before walking into the movie, my only concern was screen space for DQ. But the movie revolves around DQ's journey from Bangalore to Kochi via Ooty and Kottayam. DQ's character whose sole ambition is to be a photographer resorts to be an IT guy forced by his father. Sudden death of his father forces DQ to travel from Bangalore to Kochi to retrieve his father's dead body which was misplaced by some other lady's body. Irrfan Khan accompanies DQ with his van. The other lady's grand daughter joins their travel from Ooty. The incidents they encounter throughout the journey forms rest of the movie.
Main positive of this feel good movie is Irrfan Khan's one liner comedies. Whenever movie is bit down, then comes a comedy punch dialogue from Irrfan. Whole length of the movie is less than 2 hours. Whole second half is a showcase of backdrops of Kumarakom & Kochi. DQ's performance is similar to his performances in Ustad Hotel where he finds the purpose of life through hardships. His role has nothing new to offer to Malayali audiences expect for the Funeral speech scene. The role was just cake walk for DQ. Songs during DQ's intro and during trip in Ooty stands out. Only negative I felt in the movie is even malayali characters are speaking fluent Hindi.
Altogether, Karwaan is a feel good but slow road movie where three main characters find the purpose of their life. Watch it for DQ's charisma and Irrfan Khan's comedy timing.
My Rating - 3.5/5
