Chalakkudikkaran Changathi- "A shallow take on the life & times of Mani Chettan!"

__________
Kalabhavan Mani is one name that's very close to the hearts of Keralites and the untimely death of the blessed actor and musician during the summer of 2016 was a big shocker to each and every one among us who wished the news was just one among those celebrity death hoaxes. If a biopic was to be made as a tribute to our Mani Chettan there's no denying the fact that Vinayan is the perfect choice for wielding the megaphone as both have shared genuine bond between them with the later being a more or less a godfather figure for Mani.
Now coming to the film, this biographical take on the life of Kalabhavan Mani is in nutshell,a schematic view of the eventful life of Mani who has been through highs and lows at various stages in his filmy career that spans around 20 years.Suffering big time from lack of proper detailing, this lengthy biopic is at best worth a one time watch for few genuine emotional sequences and a pretty impressive lead performance from Rajamani(Senthil Krishna).
Penned by director Vianyan himself, the 161 minutes long film has its share of emotionally stunning and impressively reworked moments from the life of Mani, but at the same time fails to leave aside highly cinematic and forced sequences especially the ones related to racial discrimination that the actor had to suffer from the insidersof the film industry.Vinayan has also utilized the movie as a tool to point fingers towards the ones responsible for his personal setback, the major part of such sequences being needlessly lengthy and avoidable as far as a movie on Mani's life is concerned. The shooting sequences portrayed was the biggest letback in the narrative and felt highly repetitive and tiresome after a point.
Actor Senthil Krishna looked strikingly similar to Kalabahvan Mani and the talented actor has put his complete efforts to make the role memorable may it be the mimicry bits, verbal humor or depthful emotional sequences.Senthil has showcased his versatility as an actor and I really wish he gets such good opportunities in the future.Another actor who impressed me with this performance was Vishnu Govindan who played friend to Mani, who was particularly impressive as far as sentimental sequences are concerned.Dharmajan Bolgatty,Ramesh Pisharody,Sudheer Karmana etc too were good in their respective roles.Female leads too played their part well.
Prakash Kutty succeeded in capturing the beauty and essence of Chalakkudy well with his impresive frames. Background score by BijiBal cleverly used yesteryear songs by Mani Chettan to suit the narrative.Songs eventhough misplaced and hurried were passable and picturized neatly.Cuts by Abhilash Viswanath were okayish.
Overall,Chalakkudikkaran Changathy is a half-baked biographical account of Kalabhavan Mani that's worth a try for a noteworthy act from Senthil krishna and the love that we possess towards the late actor.
