Marriage and its repercussions have been illustrated innnumerous times by Mollywood film-makers who have succeeded in producing successful family entertainers holding the theme such as 'Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala','Midhunam' and 'Vadakkunokkiyanthram'.Young lady film-maker Soumya Sadanandan too has tried to exploit this age-old plot,the result being a strictly average feel good drama that can nevertheless turn a passable watch for families looking to spend a day out in cinemas.

The screenplay of the movie written by debutant Tony Madathil is filled with highly predictable moments that evokes nostalgia of yesteryear films utilizing the familiar theme,but somehow manages to succeed in evoking occasional laughs,thanks to the good chemistry between Kunchacko Boban and Hareesh Perumanna.The old wine in new bottle was evident throughout the narrative and the movie feels half-baked except for few genuine one-line jokes,neat performances and a decent message-oriented climax.

Many sub-plots and comedy bits in the screenplay felt out of place,as if added just for the sake of increasing the run-time of the movie.The climax portions of the movie was conceived much better on comparison with the rest of the movie.There's abundance of misogynistic jokes that's surprising in a movie helmed by a lady film maker.

The best part about the movie is Kunchako Boban who utilizes his charisma to the fullest,managing to pull out an impressive performance as the lead character Roy who's suffering from post-marriage conflicts.Nimisha Sajayan played the part of female lead adequately.Hareesh Perumanna succeeded in evoking laughs with his funny one-liners.Among others Shanthi Krishna,Vijayaraghavan etc played their part well.

Songs by multiple music directors like Azim Roshan and Sayanora Philip failed to make any sort of impact in the narrative,the same being the case with a mediocre score by BijiBal.Edits by Christy Sebastian and Frames by Arvind Krishnan were good.

Overall,Mangalyam Thanthunanena is a passable family drama that offers occasional laughs and few genuine moments of family-bonding.
