Parvathy is going to sweep all the Malayalam/Kerala film awards for this year with her performance (and likely one of the top runners for National Award). Such subtle acting--even scenes where she expresses with her eyes or even silence speak a thousand words. Most of the other actresses we have would have went over the top with melodrama. Asif Ali is amazing even with limited screen space and I don't remember the last time I hated a character so much. Tovino did a great job, as did Siddique.

Story follows a fairytale like trajectory in terms of plot progression and the second half definitely takes a few cinematic liberties, but the success of the film is that it remains engaging and retains believability because of the well written screenplay, direction, and sharp life-like performances. This is the type of movie that Malayalam needs more of--taking a fictional but well-developed storyline, and giving it life with relevant themes and grounded acting. Sad part is this will definitely be remade (and likely ruined) into other languages.
