Not a fan of period movies, because of the lag it offers, but the film will have an excellent storyline and well-written characters which connect the audience emotionally, but when Kayamkulam Kochunni lacked these qualities it becomes an epic failure which tests the audience's patience. Even though period movies have many melodramatic moments, it connects well with the audience because the storyline is not rewritten to appeal to the mass audience, but the writers of Kayalamkulam Kochunni were more concentrated on making another Pulimurugan in a periodic backdrop, it's totally fine because Bahubali was well received by the audience, but the writer & director should have minimum sense to find the perfect casting for each character. I have never seen a highly canvased film with poor casting and performances, even the "complete actor" Mohanlal was totally wasted because as I mentioned before, the writers were more focusing on the mass appeal of the characters. I have no comments on Nivin Pauly, because right after the first look poster was released I was sure that he is a total failure for this character, still, there was some hope on writers, but they disappointed big time too. Songs and background score were okayish, and the cinematography excelled in some scenes. On the whole, Kayamkulam Kochunni failed as a period movie because of the poor script, amateurish direction, and terrible performance from the lead characters.
Audience: What was your purpose for casting Mohanlal sir as Ithikkara Pakki when the character has no substance or wowing moments?
Director: Drishyam Mohanlal Sir Dialogue !!!!
Rating: 1/5
Verdict: May the spirit of Kayamkulam Kochunni forgive you guys !!!
