The best thing to happen to Tamil Movie Industry in recent times is the development of thriller and horror genres which gave rise to brilliantly crafted films like 'Maya','Dhruvangal Pathinaaru',"Onaayum Aattukkuttiyum' and 'Vikram Vedha'.Now,coming from the director of critically acclaimed comedy drama 'Mundasupatty',Ratasasan is a spine chilling psycho-thriller that's packed with some heavily disturbing sequences & eerie background Score which makes it a rewarding watch despite it's share of negligible flaws and loopholes.

Backed up by a well-etched screenplay that's thrilling for the most part, this Vishnu Vishal starrer is a compelling watch for the lovers of the genre who are sure to feel the tension and emotions of the chilling narrative that has been made more uneasy a watch by the creepy musical score by Ghibran. There's no room for any unwanted romance or comedy track in the movie and director Ram has made sure that the movie does look trimmed despite it's running time of almost 3 hours, courtesy slick editing by San Lokesh.

The cynical nature of the antagonist was established convincingly and in a hard-hitting manner with disturbing details. On the down side, the backstory of the villain and his prosthetics could have been handled better for providing a more befitting conclusion to the movie.

Ghibran's background score was really effective in maintaining the tension sorrounding the murders and is sure to haunt the weak-hearted for some time.V. Shankar's frames were impressive and particularly catchy during night sequences.Cheers to San Lokesh for his brilliant cuts that helped the movie look trimmed despite its running time of 171 minutes.

Vishnu Vishal has improved quiet a lot from the days of 'Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu' impressive cop act as lead charater Arun.Amala Paul portrayed the character invested on her well.Among the other characters Munishkanth Ramdoss was impressive.

Overall,Ratsasan is a well-made thriller that's worth a watch from the big screens!
