In short - Sarkar is another glorified version of Murugadoss's old political movie 'Ramanaa'. Sarkar fell short of Ramanaa in the execution part of the third act. If Murugadoss choose to avoid the heroism portion completely including those action sections and made the movie about the realistic fight of a common man against system, it would have been a cult classic like Ramannaa. In Ramanaa, even though Vijaykanth is well known for superhero like actions and acts, he just dies like a martyr in climax and hence, that movie is still remembered as a cult hit. Director had two choices, either make his usual stuff - entertaining mass masala movie with hero doing good action, romance, dance steps, punch dialogues etc or make a realistic movie. But Murugadoss opted to make a toned down version of movie with mediocre dance steps, action scenes lacks punch like coin fight or shoot out scene like we seen in Kathi or Thuppaki, under developed romance and repeat of old punch dialogues! Murugadoss's cameo scene already become sensational after AIADMK minister's comment and will ensure free promotion! Kidos for the makers for showcasing Kerala flood rescue work in end credits!

+ves:

  • Vijay's power pack performance is the back bone of the movie.
  • Yogi Babu
  • CM character & Radha Ravi excelled as corrupt politicians
  • Title card

-ves:

  • Nothing new in action scenes; it is the same old slow motion when hero chasing goons and fast forward he trashes someone!
  • NO signature Background music for Vijay. Even, varalakshmi had a decent one. In Kathi & Thuppakki, BG music really elevated the action scenes!
  • Aravind Swami or Arun Vijay could have been a good replacement for VaraLakshmi character. Even for emotional scenes, she just look bluntly at screen.

My verdict - Political movie with a message but flawed in execution!
BO Verdict - ATBB in cards!
My Rating - 3/5
