Went to watch Neeyum Njanum with my mother and family. Was pleasantly surprised to see that the show was full.
Neeyum Njanum starts slowly and takes time to develop the characters, the first half is mainly about Yakoob's (Sharaf) love for Haashmi (Anu Sithara). Through some usual cliche's like falling in love during a song, and other scenes, the couple gets married and moves to a remote village called Mailaanchivallavu. The rest of the half is about introducing some characters typical in a village setting. Vishnu Unnikrishnan as Broker Ganapathy adds humour and his love for the sister of a SuDaPI leader leads to the main plot in the second half. The first half ends with Sijo Wilson being introduced.
The second half revolves around different perceptions in the society, and how commoners are excited to revel in other peoples misery. The director has used a mouse and a mouse-trap, to cleverly show the situation as a trap and how they exit from the situation.
The movie ends in a feel-good way with every character fulfilling their roles satisfactorily.
My ratings on the movie are as below:
Cast - 4/5 (special mention to Anu Sithara)
Direction - 3/5 (good in second half, slight lag in first half)
Story - 4/5 (covers relevant social messages)
Script - 3/5
Overall - 4/5.
Personally I enjoyed the movie, even though the length could've been 10-15 mins shorter.
