The story by Kalki itself has a grounded approach. Nobody pulls a rajanikath during action sequences (I'm talking abt the books, haven't seen the movie).
For eg: Vandiya devan is afraid of water. But you are right, the characters are not 3 dimensional and there is not much character growth and arc. Nor any moral dilemmas. Most of the story power is derived from its dialogues and character confrontations.
Moreover, even natural calamities plays a significant role un the story, which at times may eclipse the characters themselves.

Action sequences are in fact, not at all bad in the film. I'm yet to read the books, but someone who has read the book and saw the film told me that they've struggled to bring out characters with the depth it has in the books even, so now I'm kind of confused..

Mostly the problem is, there are too many main characters and too little time to establish everyone and everything. Ith oru web series aayirunnel maybe kidu aayene enn thonni...

Same thing i was worried about - people expecting RRR or Bahubali....Mani completely taken in believable... people cannot digest the power of dialogs whether the same is in Trish-Karthy combo scenes or Ash-Trish scene... BB vs PS is like comparing Basha vs Dalapathi...thats it.

When you look at the makers, comparison seems ridiculous. But I think comparisons initially arise maybe because both BB and PS fall under similar genres, PS kaanumpol last ithupole oru period action film aalukalude thalayil ullath BB and RRR aanu, and then when you think about it, the journey for PS's characters and it's narrative is very limited... Padam theerumpo characters engane aano, angane thanne aayirunnu avar ellaam padam thudangiyappozum, strictly personal opinion maathram... Also agreeing on the dialogues, quote worthy aaya orupaad exchanges und, PS books vaayikkanam ini...

PS1 and bahubali are not of the same genre. PS1 is a period film and bahubali is fantasy genre
