Summary of previous works by Rajamouli

    1. Student No 1

His first shot at telugu films was Student No.1 which was a runaway hit of 2001.

    2. Simhadri

It took two long years for Rajamouli to come up with his second blockbuster flick Simhadri.

    3. Sye

His next flick was Sye based on the rugby game. The film had a nail biting rugby match at the climax which includes many artists. It was first of its kind film in Tollywood based on a game. This was the first time Rajamouli collaborated with Senthil Kumar and in their first stint, the aerial shots and the way the rugby match was shot was very well appreciated.[who?] Rajamouli acted in a brief role in the introduction scene of comedian Venu Madhav in this movie Sye.

    4. Chatrapathi

With his next flick Chatrapathi, Rajamouli was again at his best evoking emotions with this attempt. The music of M. M. Keeravani and cinematography by Senthil Kumar added to the films success.

    5. Vikramarkudu

In his next stint Vikramarkudu, he worked with Raviteja where he played dual role.

    6. Yamadonga

It took four years for Jr.NTR to work with S S Rajamouli, and could taste success only after working for the film Yamadonga. It was a socio-fantasy Telugu film praised by critics for the extraordinary sets and visuals.

    7. Magadheera

What was coming next was the biggest film in Telugu Cinema of the time, Magadheera which stood as one of the biggest commercial successess of the time in Telugu Cinema.[3] He has won the Nandi Award for Best Director and Filmfare Award for Best Director – Telugu for the film. This film also won the National Film Award for Best Choreography.[4]

    8. Maryada Ramanna

His comedy thriller film titled Maryada Ramanna (2010) has comedian Sunil as male lead. This was the biggest hit of that year.[5]

Sify review - Nan Ee (Tamil)

    Movie Review:Naan Ee

    MoviebuzzNaan Ee Movie
    Naan Ee Director
    SS RajamouliProducer
    PVP CinemasMusic
    MM KeeravaniCast
Sudeep, Nani, Samantha, Santhanam By Moviebuzz
Every once in a while comes a film that grabs your attention and throws you into an experience so profound that nothing else really matters.
SS Rajamouli’s Naan Ee is an escapist, comic book-like fantasy film which works big time as it is pure entertainment. Those who enjoyed the trailer of the film and wondered how one could make a movie where an ordinary Ee or house-fly is a super hero will not be disappointed.
Telugu cinema’s hot-shot director SS Rajamouli who conceptualised Naan Ee is a ‘Magadheera” (Brave Man). He has been able to serve what he is famous for, masala concoctions with local flavour. We are aware that what we're seeing is just hokum and yet we go along for the ride anyway, because - let's face it - it allows us to have such fun.
The basic plot of Naan Ee is simple and predictable but it is the directors packaging along with MM Keeravani’s background score &Re-recording along with riveting performance by Sudeep that takes it to the winning post. Another major plus for the film is KK Senthilkumar’s camerawork and special effects & animation which by Indian standard is superb.
The film begins with a voice over of a father trying to put his child to sleep with another fairy tale of a super hero Ee (house fly). Sudeep (Sudeep), a playboy and a business tycoon can charm any women till he meets Bindu (Samantha) a beautiful girl who is a miniature artist and a social worker. But she has a soft corner for a next door neighbour, a charming guy Nani (Nani) who is madly in love with her. Sudeep’s ego is hurt and in a murderous rage kills Nani. How our hero reincarnates as a house fly and takes revenge on Sudeep forms the rest of the story.
The story may sound trite but the way the director has made it look convincing and his packaging high on emotional factor, romance, and comedy is what that makes it an enjoyable fun ride. Sudeep’s encounters with the fly, Bindu realising that her lover has come back as a fly to take revenge and how she assists him is told in a humorous and entertaining manner.
If any revenge story has to work, the villain has to be powerful and the hero’s motive has to be strong. The romance between the lead pair has been well established and the climax is a clincher.
Must see: Naan Ee special page
Sudeep as the bad, mean dirty villain steals the show. He had a very difficult role as he had to do all his scenes with an imaginary fly during the actual shoot of the film. Remember the fly was created at the post-production by CG work and special effects. Samantha looks beautiful and has done her role with consummate ease. Singer Chinmayi has done a great job in dubbing for her. Nani as the nice guy has a charm about him which makes the audiences later root for the fly.
Among the most breathtaking scenes in Naan Ee is the thrilling sequence when the Ee tries to stop Sudeep from reaching the airport so that he doesn’t take the flight with Bindu to Delhi! The romantic scene of the heroine whispering to the fly in a coffee shop with the waiter looking flabbergasted has you smiling. Santhanam in a cameo as a petty thief and how heroine’s “love” transforms him is a scream.
Naan Ee is a film that touch both heart and mind; that make you surrender completely to the power of the experience. Ultimately however, the film belongs to one man and one man alone-SS Rajamouli. The man had the guts to make a film with a house fly as hero and used technology to translate his dream onto celluloid. PVP Cinemas who produced the film deserves a pat on their back for backing the project. It's films like this that make going to the cinema an out-of-the-world experience, and boy it's jolly good fun. Don’t miss it. Verdict: Excellent

    Story

When the titles of Eega run on the silver screen, we hear voice of director Rajamouli narrating stories to children. When children plead him to narrate an unusual story, he will pick up Eega story. We see (Samantha) Bindu in the first scene followed by Nani. They both fell in love with eachother although Bindu never expresses her love for Nani. Meanwhile, Bindu (who is a social worker) approaches the business magnate Sudeep to raise funds for a cause. Sudeep, who happens to be a womanizer, will get attracted to the beauty of Samantha and follows her. When he gets to know that Nani was after Samantha, he hatches plot to kill Nani and accomplishes the same. All this happens within first half-an-hour and then comes Eega, the hero of the film.
Nani, who gets killed by Sudeep, will reincarnate as a housefly. The little create fortunately remembers the remniscences of the past life and chooses to take revenge on Sudip. The remaining part of the story will unveil a series of scenes filled with graphics and animations, which will undoubtedly be a feast to the eyes!
    Analysis :

Eega is not just an animation movie. It's a classic love story. The plot selected by Rajamouli was different, but it has definately made a difference as people welcomed the alignment of graphics with a pure love story. The good amount of graphics that went into the picture is a visual treat. The action sequences of Eega and the introduction of the character were beautifully sketched by Rajamouli. The screenplay and dialogues were good and so were the costumes of Sudip and Samantha designed by Rama Rajamouli. For the first time in Tollywood, a movie went close to Hollywood film. The introduction scene of Eega reminds us of the famous flick Avatar.
The best part of Eega is the expressions of the housefly. To convey a message to its ex-life lover, Eega makes different buzz. The dubbing (buzz) of Eega is given by Rajamouli. Background score of the movie is also another asset and the credit goes to MM Keeravani. The two songs looked good on screen while the climax dance by Eega received good response.

    Performance :

When we talk of performances in Eega movie the first place is occupied by Sudeep. As a filthy rich businessman, who takes the role of antagonist to win his love, Sudeep's performance made audiences awestruck while Samantha was looking gorgeous. Her facial expressions played a key role in conveying the feelings of an average girl who lost her love. Nani has a very little role and supposedly gave his best. And Eega's performance was awesome...err...the credit again goes to Rajamouli and his animation team. The comedy sequences by Thaagubothu Ramesh tickled the ribs of the audiences.
In a nutshell: In Tollywood, its usually heroes or heroines who drag audiences to theatres and for the first time people are thronging theatres only for the sake of a director. The credit obviously goes to Rajamouli who proved that if there's stuff in a director, he can cast a housefly as the hero and make it a big hit. With Eega, the outlook of Telugu Cinema changed completely. Hatts off to Rajamouli for spreading the name and fame of Telugu Cinema across the globe.

    Eega (telugu) review from OneIndia

Eega - Movie Review: A graphical wonder
Eega - Movie Review: A graphical wonder

    Friday, July 6, 2012, 13:19 [IST]

Director SS Rajamouli is one of those directors who has never tasted a flop in their career. He takes film-making as a challenge and enjoys it as a passion and not for money. He has taken an insect as his hero in Eega and made the film, which is so gripping and makes the audiences sit on the edge of their seats biting their nails.
Sudeep (Sudeep) is a billionaire and women are his weakness. He always wants to tread wrong routes to achieve what he wants. He is even ready to kill his friend to bag what he wants. He sets his eyes on Bindu (Samanta), a miniature sculpture maker. Nani (Nani) is in love with her. Learning her love towards Nani, Sudeep bumps him off. Just before his death, Nani comes to know that Bindu also loves him. So he takes a rebirth as an Eega (housefly). Though it is an insect, it remembers everything in its past life and wants to take revenge on Sudeep. The rest of the story deals with how the housefly takes revenge on Sudeep.
Performance: Though he had a very limited screen presence, Nani has proved that he is a talented artist. Samanta has also proved that she could perform well and also filled the glamour slot. Although Sudeep is a villain, he has the screen presence from beginning to end. He has given an extraordinary performance. He is excellent in action.
The housefly, which is a graphical object is the hero in Eega. The sentimental scenes between the heroine and Eega, the revenge scenes with the villain are excellent. Rajamouli is successful in creating the exact expressions of Eega with the help of animators and graphic designers.
Technical: Senthil Kumar's cinematography is extra-ordinary and Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao has done a very good job. S Ravinder's art work is also worth praising. MM Keeravani composed two songs for this film, but his entire work is on background score. He has given wonderful re-recording, which elevates every scene.
When it comes to direction, SS Rajamouli's work needs no mention. Taking a small point, which he heard in his childhood, he has brought out an excellent film. The storyline and plot are perfect. The presentation is superb and the narration is extraordinary. In fact, the director himself is the hero in Eega because the housefly is a graphical object.
Remarks: As Ram Gopal Varma's predicted, the film will definitely collect Rs 100 crore. The film, which has been made with Hollywood standards, will mesmerize audiences of all age groups and classes. It is a must watch film. Watch it to enjoy Rajamouli's graphical wonder.
PS: The film would be extraordinary if you can watch it in multiplexes
Cast: Naani, Samanta, Sudeep, Aditya Menon, Devadarsini, Noel, Hamsa Nandini, Srinivas Reddy, Tagubotu Ramesh and others
Credits: Cinematography - Senthil Kumar; Editing - Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao; Art - S Ravinder; Music - Keeravani; Presents - D Sureshbabu; Producer - Korrapati Sai; Story, screenplay and direction - SS Rajamouli
