Actually i am not against liverpool spending or liverpool winning, also not speaking about net spend, cos u know city suddenly burst into the scene at the beginning of last decade or so, so obviously to attract players or to even built a squad capable of winning the league or finishing top 4 they need to spend more than what clubs like united/liverpool/arsenal do the called elite clubs of that time, it would be foolish to argue... so leave that case.. but what Carragher or some are aiming a dig at city that they buy superstars are not true, KDB/Sane/Laporte were not superstars or playing at so called elite clubs, they got better under pep like what u claim Jurgen did to liverpool stars... there was no ronaldo, messi or even zlatan... but only (mostly) young players with potential..

Chor unnunnavark manasilaavum..Van Dijk came from Southampton.. firmly a mid table team..Allisson from Roma.. another team which was hardly a consistently top 4 team. These are players identified by the scouting team. Inflated prices even at that stage, but they knew if they wait Liverpool would have to pay double the price for same quality. So they looked at top potentials from middling teams and then coached them into world class players. Simple as that.

Yes all players improved under him including VVD ..but VVD and Alisson already showed their class/quality even before joining Reds ..that's why the huge transfer fee
VVD cost 75m in Jan 2018 ( Southampton bought him for 13m in 2015 from Celtic ) and Alisson cost 67m in July 2018 ( which was a record until Chelsea signed Kepa for 71m ) who was bought by Roma from Inter (Brazil) for around 7m and had only two seasons with them ...all of a sudden the fee of an average GK increased to 67m

Even during Klopp's early days (first two seasons) the team was doing good upfront and the problem was defense and GK , so he addressed that by bringing in VVD and Alisson. The rest is history

But, Merson I think used Rotherham (as an example) to get promotion to premier league not to win Champions league. Also, the market value of player mostly get inflated. VVD's transfer negotiations went over 2 transfer windows and Kepa's fee woundn't be 71m if Allison's fee Roma demanded etc. If DeGea went to Real before that, could you guess his transfer fee?
