Asoka (2001)

Only the cinematography stands out.

Writing, action and acting are just below average for a grand period movie.

It should have been a classic.

Because the history of Mauryan empire, Kalinga war, converson to buddhism - lot of content is there.

But no... We have to include cringy romantic plot and wrongly placed songs.

This is why we don't have a movie that can stand up to a Ben Hur Or a Gladiator.

(Someone make this damn thread sticky. Difficult to find)

Wow didn't expect this..... Surprisingly enjoyable for most of the time..

Stunning visuals, superb score..

Castwise, Ranveer single handedly shoulder the movie..

Shahid and deepika are ok but the material given to them is bad, results in stiff acting.

Main negative is that there is zero chemistry between shahid-deepika love.

If their romance part was written well, then this would have been an incredible tragic movie.

Another negative is the last 20 min, where melodrama turns into over melodrama..

Rajput women shown happily running to the fire looks like they are going to take a bath in the pool.

See they didn't have to show jauhar at all.

Instead Alaudeen receiving the news of Jauhar by soldiers , or by the time he reaches the fort, he just see the fire.. That would have been more than enough and impactful.
