Raja to direct `Lage Raho` remake!

    By Moviebuzz | Thursday, 07 December , 2006, 18:29

Is the Remake Raja’s – M. Raja and his brother Jayam Ravi going to do the Tamil remake of Lage Raho Munnabhai for Gemini Film Circuit?
Already Gemini Film Circuit (GFC) has announced that they hold the remake rights for the entire south (Tamil, Telugu and Kannada). Remember that they had produced all the three remakes of its original Munnabhai MBBS as Vasoolraja MBBS, Shankardada MBBS and Uppidada MBBS with Kamal Hassan, Chiranjeevi and Upendra respectively?

GFC has already started work on the Telugu version with Chiranjeevi, Vidya Balan and directed by Prabhu Deva. Now the big question is- Who will do the Tamil version? Earlier Kamal did not show an inclination to do the second part but the latest we hear is that he has been offered a whopping Rs 8 Crore as salary, (Rs 1 Crore more than his Dashaavtar salary)!

Meanwhile Raja has been signed to direct the Tamil remake. Earlier Vasoolraja MBBS was directed by Saran who says that Kamal will be doing his next film for his production company! The buzz in Kollywood is that if Kamal does not do the film, then Raja has asked his brother Ravi to do the lead role.

    `Thiruvilayadil` on Dec 15th !

    By Moviebuzz | Tuesday, 12 December , 2006, 10:47

Dhanush-Shriya long in production Thiruvilayadil Aarambham is atlast releasing this Friday(Dec 15th).

The film is directed by Bhoopathy Pandian, who last did Dhanush's Devathaye Kandein and is produced by his sister Dr Vimala Geetha under his home banner R.K productions.

The film is said to be a racy masala entertainer with all essential ingredients. An old Rajnikanth hit number from Mr Bharath, the popular number Yenamma Kannu.. has been remixed by Music director D. Imman and picturised on the lead pair.

The controversy of using the old titles of Sivaji Ganesan classics has also caused resentment among the late thespians fans who have protested against it.

But undoubtedly the highlight of the film is going to be the Dhanush- Shriya pairing, which was done much before the launch of Sivaji. Now there is a lot of curiousty among the audience to see the superstar's heroine.

Dhanush needs a hit if he has to stay afloat. So all eyes are on Thiruvilayadil Aarambham. Meanwhile everybody was surprised when the film managed to get a clean "U" certificate !

Gun shot – Prakashraj in shock!

Prakashraj has had a narrow escape. If director Prabhu Solomon had not turned off the generator, the situation would have been serious.

Prakashraj has had a narrow escape. If director Prabhu Solomon had not turned off the generator, the situation would have been serious.

In the film 'Lee,' Sibi is a football player. Prakashraj is his trainer. The villain has to win the game, so their plan is to bump off Prakashraj.

The shooting of scenes with Sibi, villain and Prakashraj took place at the Seva Sadan grounds in Tambaram. According to the scene, the villain has to shoot Prakashraj and he has to fall down wounded. As soon as the gun is fired, the bullet has to hit Prakashraj and blood spurt out. For that, wires were wrapped around his body for electricity to pass through and hit the red powder, for a natural effect.

Everything was ready and Prabhu Solomon called for the shot. The generator was turned on and the villain shot. But instead of the color packet bursting, Prakashraj started screaming because the electricity had started leaking and he was feeling electric shocks.

With quick thinking, Prabhu Solomon turned off the generator. It took Prakashraj 2 hours to get back to normal.

For the re-take, everything went well as planned!

    Biggies in big trouble!

Tamilnadu government’s decision to slash cinema admission rates has been welcomed by the common man on the streets. It is a New Year gift from the Karunanidhi government to the people in the state and has the backing of all film-related organizations.
On the face of it, everybody should be happy, but at least half a dozen big budget movies on the floor are in serious trouble. Notably Rajnikanth’s Shankar directed Sivaji and Kamal Hassan’s Dashaavtar , will find it difficult to be marketed.

The buzz is that Sivaji will have to be sold at Rs 60 Crore plus for all its rights, if it has to profitable to its producers. And ‘Oscar Films’ themselves have claimed that Dashaavtar will cost around Rs 30 Crore. Why, even some of the Pongal releases have been sold to distributors at current rate. Now the big question is will these distributors take delivery?

The new rates come into effect from January 1, 2007 which means Pongal releases do not get the benefit of opening week-end. And however big hit the film turns out to be, collections will only be 50 percent of the current rate. It clearly means that rates have to be renegotiated with the distributor, entailing losses to producers.

The biggest losers are going to be superstars as their salaries are going to be slashed by more than 50 percent! Star technicians and all others involved in film production will also feel the pinch, as producers are going to pass the buck back to them.

The over dependence on the star system has been the bane of the industry. In a way, it will bring some discipline to the industry, as star salaries constitute 50 to 60 percent of a normal Tamil big budget movie.
