    A 'Vinnaithandi Varuvaya' sequel

'Vinnaithandi Varuvaya' that had Silambarasan and Trisha essaying lead roles as Karthik and Jessie, directed by Gautham Menon made a lasting impression among audience as it was a breezy romantic movie that ended on a positive note, that, although you may lose your loved one, life does go on.

The movie also set a whole new style statement among Tamil cinema fans and the stars set a new identity for themselves through this film.

For all you 'VTV' fans out there, we have some really good news in store for you.

The team of 'VTV' is coming together again, with a sequel for their former blockbuster. Gautham Menon will be directing this project that's tentatively titled 'Vinnaithandi Varuvein' and Simbu will play Karthik again, and AR Rahman will compose the tunes for this sequel.

So will Trisha play Jessie again? In a recent interview with a media house, Trisha expressed she would love to play a Jessie again and she's a good friend of Gautham so we're only hoping she does, however, it entirely depends on the script.

Although there's no official announcement on the project, as soon as Simbu's official fans page in a networking site passed this information to STRs fans, people started wishing them luck, predicting the story of 'VTV2' and what not.

But it is said that, 'Vinnaithandi Varuvein' will be more colourful, faster and more than just a breezy romantic entertainer.

However, the project will go on floors after Simbu is done with 'Podaa Podi' and 'Vettai Mannan' and Gautham with 'Prem Katha' (Hindi remake of VTV) and his project with Jeeva.

'Vinnathandi Varuvein' is set for a December 2012 release, say sources. Tell us what you feel about a 'VTV' sequel...

    Trisha awaits a Jessie

Ever since Trisha's 'Varsham' that released in 2004 in Telugu, Trisha has been juggling successfully between Tamil and Telugu films. And with 'Khatta Meetha' that released last year, she made her debut in Bollywood as well.

And with her 'Mankatha' opposite thala Ajith releasing this August, media is abuzz as she has not signed any Tamil projects after that, as of now.

While speaking to a media house, Trisha Krishnan explains why:

"The scripts I am approached to play in Tamil are only a repeat of what I have already played in here. How many times do I repeat the same thing? Both audience and I would definitely get bored. Bring me a script with a new character to play, and Ill literally come back running to Tamil cinema..."

Speaking of 'Chennaiyil Oru Mazhaikalam' with Gautham Menon, she said that she and Gautham are good friends and the project is his dream child. "He truly believes I fit the role well and we have finished only one schedule of shoot, after that both of us got busy... As soon as we get together we'll start work on it."

So Trisha's bored of clichd roles and doesn't want to play characters she has already played. But wait, there's something the actress has to say. "I'm awaiting a role like 'Vinnaithandi Varuvaya's Jessie," she signs off.

Well, we're waiting for the same Trisha, Jessie took not just Karthik but also movie buffs by awe and we're still smitten by that. We wish the actress luck with her 'Mankatha' that is all set to release shortly.

Not decided about Vadivelu in 'Rana': KSR

Director K S Ravikumar has said that no decision on roping in Vadivelu for 'Rana', his forthcoming film with Superstar Rajinikanth, had been taken and things would be finalised only after Rajini is back from Singapore.

The 'Muthu' and 'Padayappa' director was reacting to reports appeared in a section of the media, claiming that Rajini wants to have Vadivelu in the project, as he would like to give a fresh lease of life to the comedian, who is suffering for his 'comments' in the campaign during the Assembly polls.

"We all are waiting for the Superstar to come to India. His health is the first and foremost priority. We will decide on Rana only after he is back. As of now, Rajini and Deepika alone have been confirmed for the film," he said.

Reassuring that the project is very much on, Ravikumar added: "Rajini is very interested to restart 'Rana'. It is his ambitious film and it is going to be a real treat to all his fans. I may visit him in Singapore soon."

Rajini will be at Poes Garden soon!

Sources close to Rajinikanth are peeved with reports that appeared in an English newspaper about the superstar moving into a "new address, and not his Poes Garden residence".

The height of it was when they wrote that his new home will be 'completely infection free zone'!

In the same report it was mentioned that "Rajini sir has been having some high profile visitors even in Singapore", including Telugu megastar turned politician Chiranjeevi.

Our source in Rajinikanth household clears : "Chiranjeevi never visited Rajinikanth, and only close family members have interacted with the superstar. He will be going straight to Poes Garden house once he is back from Singapore"

There have also been stories in local newspapers that the house at Poes Garden has been modified according to Vaastu.

Says the source: "It is all rubbish as it is only some minor repair work that is going on at Poes Garden house"

    Nayanthara on a Vrath?

Marriage reminds us of Nayanthara, who must be wondering why people are more anxious about her personal life and marriage.

Every second day there is a report about her marriage in the media and they have even gone ahead and given reports about the month, venue and her wedding couture.

But the actress is keeping a studious silence and is her own world, with close friends and avoiding public attention.

The actress who is completing work on her Telugu mythological Sri Rama Rajyam is shooting in Hyderabad is said to be on 'Vrath'

The grapevine has it that during the entire shoot of Sri Rama Rajyam, which she plays Sita, the actress is on a strict vegetarian diet, having only home-made food, and avoiding functions.

The buzz is that she is not meeting Prabhu Deva during her shoots in Hyderabad, and is more or less cocooned in her five star hotel suite.

The idea seems to be to get into the skin of the character she is portraying on screen.

Meanwhile the shoot of Sri Rama Rajyam will be over by mid July. Till then it looks like Nayan will be on hibernation, not easy for an actress who has tasted big time success as glamour queen of south movies.

    180- Review

There is something sweet about 180 or Nootrenbadhu, Jayendra’s debut film as director.
It has sweet people, sweet songs and a sweet sacrifice, that gives it a youthful flavour. The film has been shot in some exotic locations with all its lead characters wearing designer wear and having expensive lifestyle, mostly in the second half.

Jayendra and his writer Subha seems to be influenced by Mani Ratnam style of gossamer romantic films of the 80’s. However the story here is hard to swallow. Despite the director’s best efforts though, the film drags along because of a rickety screenplay that leaves you with too many questions unanswered.

It is a languorous look at the agony and ecstasy of love. The film opens with hero doing rituals for a lost soul in Kasi and story is told in intermittent flashbacks. Ajay Kumar aka AJ (Siddharth) is a doctor in US who falls in love and marries Renu (Priya Anand) a happy-go-lucky girl. All seems hunky dory till, till fate intervenes and AJ is forced to leave his sweetheart and settle in Chennai for six months with a new name Manu. He stays with a Brahmin couple (Mouli and Geetha).

Manu’s philosophy in life is to live for the day and not to worry about the future. Manu is a do-gooder and messiah of sorts as he starts a mess for his landlady and arranges sponsors for newspaper boys in the neighbourhood! A photo journalist Vidya (Nitya Menen) falls hook-line sinker for Manu after two meetings and soon confesses her love to him. But our hero is in no mood to listen and he decides to leave town. But once again fate intervenes and he is forced to take Vidya with him to US! Now can we expect a twist, as Renu is in the same city?

On the up-side, 180 first half is light and peppy and a major plus point is the pleasant music score of Sharreth. The rhythmic ‘Rules Kidayaadhu’ and the melodious ‘Nee Korinal’ are the pick of the album. The picturisation of Rules using a phantom Flex camera captures the magic of each moment in ultra-slow motion.

It has compelling cinematography by Balasubramaniem, especially the outdoor street scenes in San Francisco, rich look thanks to colourist Kevin Shaw and sound designer Tapas Nayak gives it that extra edge.

The entire film is held together by one-man Siddharth. He has given a matured sharp-edged performance bringing out the joys and hidden fears of the character. Nithya Menen glides through her role effortlessly conveying the jovial nature and anguish of a young woman who dared to love the wrong guy. Priya Anand has the more author backed role and wins our sympathies. The guy who plays hero’s friend in US along with Mouli fit into their roles.

If the director and his writer had paid a little more attention to the hero AJ’s characterisation, it would have worked big time. The film follows the path of love, misunderstandings, heartache and long drawn attempts to define and redefine love.

However 180 is totally different from the assembly line mass masalas that is flooding the screens. The film is worth a look for its superior packaging with a touch of class.

    Verdict: Above Average
