Ameer impresses Bharathiraja
2011-11-21 10:11:10
Why did the master Bharathiraja choose Ameer over Parthiban in his Anna Kodiyum Kodi Veeranum (AKKV) which was launched on November 1 in Theni with a lot of fanfare?
It seems Parthiban did a photo shoot for the film and Bharathiraja was not happy with it.
The character he was to play in AKKV is called Kattuvirya, a village rowdy of the 70’s.
Bharathiraja saw Ameer at the funeral of Jeeva Ilayaraja in Theni and was impressed with his hunk looks.
The director quietly conducted a photo shoot with Ameer in Kattuvirya get-up.
Bharathiraja was blown over when Ameer readily agreed to take off his beard to bring that edge and authenticity to the character.
Anyway all is well and AKKV is progressing fast in Theni.

Thalapathi goes to B’wood
Mehul S Thakkar
Bollywood producer Bharat Shah has bought the remake rights of Mani Ratnam’s superhit film Thalapathi on his trip down south last month. This is only the second film, after Alaipayuthey, for which the ace director has sold off the remake rights. A source informed CT, “Bharat bhai shares a very good personal and professional rapport with Mani sir. They had co-produced Saathiya with Yash Chopra earlier, which turned out to be a hit. He was keen to buy the remake rights of Thalapathi as the script and the treatment of the film has all the pre-requisites for an entertaining Hindi film.”
Thalapathi starring Rajinikanth and Mammootty in the lead roles was inspired by the friendship between Karna and Duryodhana in the Mahabharata. The remake will be directed by Puja Jatinder Bedi, who has worked behind the scenes for films like Mangal Pandey, The Myth and Saathiya. An excited Puja said, “The film was made in 1991; so, I plan to modernize parts of the story as well as a few action sequences. However, I plan to keep the screenplay and the characters intact.”
Bharat Shah confirmed the story and added, “The project will commence after the release of Ghost (which has been directed by Puja).”

Pro-Tamil protestors staged a violent demonstration at Prasad Lab against the release of Dam 999, an Indian English movie which had also been dubbed into Tamil.
Political parties like MDMK are protesting against its release, as it is said to have taken a “pro-Kerala angleto the Mullaperiyar issue.”
It was high drama at the press meet of Dam 999,which was to be held at the Prasad labs in the city. But the meet had to be cancelled even after media had gathered, thanks to the protest launched by the MDMK party workers, against a scene in the film.
In the pandemonium, a glass pane of the lab building was broken and the protestors even carried away a reel of a Kannada film which had come to the lab for processing work, causing much hardship to the lab who had only lent the premises for the press meet.
Police personnel arrived in large numbers to quell the crowd and to restore peace.
Dam 999 is directed by Sohan Roy and centres on a technically badly constructed dam and its collapse which leads to thousands of deaths.
