Guys. Twitteril vann debate about Patakha trailer. Not vann debate but still pretty much there. So the debate is about taking fair girls and applying make up and making them darker to reperesent desi heartland and why not audition and take people who actually look like that ..aspiring actors so that it would represent that place. What's your take on this @Perumthachan @ballu

Not much substance I think... Mammooty had to do make up to look varunni and mada...I think make up is just part of the whole film process...

i know i am going out of context here... would take two hollywood movies as examples... one is the 1956 movie The Teahouse of the August Moon... ee padathil the best actor ever Marlon Brando plays a Japanese... an American playing a Jap and he did a tremendous good job... the other is the 1968 movie The Party... ee padathil one of the best British comedians ever Peter Sellers plays an Indian... a white Britisher darkened to play an Indian... ee randu padangalilum, these actors were chosen for their acting versatility... Brando and Sellers, both played the parts almost to perfection... the accents, the mannerisms, you doubt whether a real Jap or Indian could pull off those roles so effortlessly...

you chose an artiste for their acting ability, the artiste chooses a role to broaden that ability... abhinayikkaan saadhikkunna dusky complexioned artistsne kittiyaal valare nallathu, illle what to do? what would be worse, you go after originality and risk the whole movie or you go after a bit of nautanki and save the project... the other thing is, indians are obsessed with whitening creams, our stars promote them, why not stop that first? acknowledge our shade and get along... pinne, nammude heroinesil evidaa bulky aayittullavar, evidaa squint eyes ullavar, evidaa cleft lips ullavar...

actually its a two way thing...ee cinemaku vendi vishal kore audition cheythirunu ....kore pere nokki oduvil annu evaril ethiyathu ....oru roleinu vendi pakka aaya actore kittumpo skin tone fair ayathu kondu reject cheyanda avishyam ella ....Vishal is a kind of dir who would cast actors for their potential rather than going for the looks ...so all fair

recently Kadai kutty singham enna cinemayude reviewil ...nammade Baradwaj Rangan oru kaariyam mention cheythirunu ....
the film focused on the importance of agri farming and goes on and on about tamil culture , soil and stuff but when it came to the heroine they chose to cast a mumbai girl and darkened her skin ignoring the many tamil speaking dusky heroines in the industry.

Later he wrote a piece on this hypocrisy of tamil cinema ...oru vashathu karruppu thaan enakku pudicha coloru ennu paadi ...tamil panpaadu aghishikum ....maru vashathu tamanna/amy jackson pole remotely polum tamizhachi allathe nadimaare valiya star akum ....

I never understood why someone like Amy Jackson get cast in indian roles when she clearly looks foreigner ...its ridiculous ...
