Jogi (Netflix | 2022)
Jogi's strength lies in the turbulent emotions of its characters.
It's not a perfect film, but its compassion, vigour and restraint undoubtedly lift this above the usual Bollywood escapist fare. With the exception of an abrupt culmination, this is largely impressive filmmaking. The movie might have collapsed under the weight of its own conceit if it hadn’t been for the taut narrative and the strong performances by the cast. Jogi belongs to Diljit Dosanjh. He is in almost every scene, and this is an author-backed role that he obviously relishes. Even if you aren't the patriotic sort, his performance is reason enough to watch the film.
While Jogi does have it's flaws, especially, succumbing to some rather generic Bollywood tropes towards the end, it is a thriller that provides constant rising tension and authentic thrills.
Babli Bouncer (2022)
Babli Bouncer has nothing special to offer and has plot points as old as time with an unbelievably messy final act, but what makes it easier to get through is a never before seen Tamannaah who single handedly carries the entire film. Her performance, which did stumble at parts, very much stands out in this otherwise forgettable fare.
