Roberto Carlos sentenced to three months in prison after failing to pay £15,000 in child support

World Cup winning defender Roberto Carlos has been sentenced to three months in prison in his native Brazil after failing to pay more than £15,000 in child support.
The former Real Madrid left-back owes 61,000 Real (£15,14 to former partner Barbara Thurler, who is the mother of two of his children.
The 44-year-old claims he is in financial difficulty and offered to pay the sum in installments, an offer which was rejected by the judge.
Carlos was subsequently handed the prison sentence, though his lawyer claims the matter will be settled without him having to spend time behind bars.

The club was founded in 2009 by initiative of energy drink-maker Red Bull GmbH who purchased playing rights of the fifth division side SSV Markranstädt with the intention of advancing the new club to the top-flight Bundesliga within eight years. RB Leipzig became first Bundesliga debutant, since the German reunification, to qualify for a European tournament UEFA Champions league 2017-18.
RB Leipzig are currently 2nd in the Bundesliga where they are likely to finish, in their first year in the top level.
